Why Didn’t Those Of Us From The 80s Didn’t Go To Concerts

Recommended Posts

I can’t believe how many oy you passed up on them. It was so cheap back then. Music, horny chicks, drugs/drinking, and great memories.  I had two jobs so don’t use that crpola as a.n excuse.

I grew up in the 90s and I attended Lollapalooza and HFStival probably more than I should have. I moved to Baltimore and Preakness was usually the same day as HFStival so I stopped then.

Back then I went to a ton of shows- I saw Metallica in a small arena (Felt Forum) on the Kill ‘em all tour. Seen them in the double digits. Seen Allman Brothers over 20 times easily.

Now - no interest. Took younger son to see Green Day twice few years ago. Last live shows I’ve been at.

Certainly would have wanted to go but they were too expensive.

Not in the 80s...concerts were like 12- 15 bucks. Every seat cost the same, too, whether it was first 10 rows on the floor, or nosebleeds.

I saw Green Day at the 930 Club in DC in 1994 right before Dookie blew up world wide. That was my first concert without my parents.

This. I just didn't have the money to go to concerts like some kids do these days.

My parents certainly wouldn't shell out hundreds for me to go. Many of the shows I saw were like if they were performing at the state fair or something like that.

I’ve seen all of the bands you mentioned live with the exception of Bowie. I was on crutches and my whole family said no. Mad beyond belief. I had the first stages of mono in in 85 when Ozzy played in Baton Rouge with  Blue Oyster Cult during his speak of the devil tour. My friend Michelle brought me. She saw how sick I was. Wanted to bring me home and I said’ no fawking way I’m missing Ozzy. And don’t want you to either.”

They got me a blanket, a fat doobie, a lude, and a hit of cid. Good times, spent four months going through the recovery from it. I missed Dio, AC/DC, Judas Priest, whilst I laid in bed as to not infect anyone else.

I was sick as a dog at my 2nd Anthrax show. Orpheum Theater in Boston, 88 I think. I tried to power thru, had a beer on the way in, but was cooked. Sat slumped over thru all but Celric Frost. The staff kept checking on me. Thought I was on drugs at first.

Second time seeing Metallica was them opening for Ozzy (MOP/Ultimate Sin tour)

Metallica was awesome and Ozzy was doing jumping jacks. That’s when Ozzy starting going downhill.

The Cult headlined that tour. GNR became a headliner for a long time after as we all know.
I was playing golf on a Sunday afternoon in City Park west. By myself and drinking  a few. Course practically empty. I got to the tenth hole and hear my favorite band at that time. It was in the distance but recognize it was The Cult. Shot the back nine enjoying it.

The Voodoo Fest was having it that weekend and I forgot. Great day. When I was teeing off on eleven they played…

You got me thinking about Ozzy. I went to the Monster Jam in Houston at the Astrodome. I was a young headbanger. Strange lineup. Bryan Adams, 38 Special, Ozzy, and Rush. I was so beyond out of it that my cousin Mike got us to the upper level and got us seats. I fell asleep and needed a Hicks Dow-Dow. Woke up forty five minutes later and my cousin is gone. He eventually came back but I was in Fawk it mode. Guy next to me says here, great hash. I did. And that’s all I needed. I pas out and was in lala world. I wake up and I could hear Rush playing that song about Bangkok. I look down at my legs and there’s this huge green dot in the middle of my chest. My cousin showed up and said “what’s up? Great laser show dude!” I threw up. Hash man hippy Greatful Dead loser gets up and moves. Good. After I get my bearings straightened I made my way to the parking lot to get picked up. An evangelical doosh was passing out flyers for his ministry that said Ozzy has given up drugs and sin and so should we all!  Ozzy was so fawked up that they had too had to chase him up the stairs behind the stairs where the empty seats are, He had his mic in hand and screamed he loves the fawking kids.

Good times.🤟🏿

Wow! I’ve seen all but five on your list. I got trashed one night with a legal pad and memory lane\loss.  I filled out three pages of just bands that at least sold golden albums. I loved going to concerts and bringing girlfriends. I loved that era🤟🏿

I saw Janes Addiction at a dive on PCH and threw bottle rockets into the crowd and Ferrell and Navarro French kissed at the closing.

Where and wydid you see Temple Of The Dog? That’s a rarity as Pearl Jam and Sound Garden only did that gig a handful of times. I saw the one in Houston as a tuneup show for their future tour that year. Top ten ever.

Didn’t have a car to drive to the venue which was usually far from Newark, NJ. Couldn’t afford the price of the ticket.

I saw a crap ton of concerts in the 1980s: The Police, Jefferson Starship, Van Halen, David Lee Roth, Nazareth, Judas Priest, Jeff Beck, AC/DC, Joe Walsh, The Kinks, Aerosmith, Asia, The Who, Billy Squier, Dire Straits, R.E.M., Z.Z. Top, Robert Plant, Grateful Dead, David Bowie, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Ramones, Head East, Eric Clapton, Ratt and U2, to name a few.

I saved the ticket stubs and recently mounted and framed them. It's hanging on my office wall.

As what is now known as classic rock died in the 1980s, I turned to bands playing at smaller venues: The Replacements, Husker Du, The Dead Kennedys, Meat Puppets, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Alvin Lee, Bow Wow Wow, The Reivers, etc.

My girlfriend at the time won free tickets and she wanted to go. So I didn't act like you would by telling her to fock off.

No wonder why you have been divorced so many times and now have 30 cats for your sole source of companionship.

Divorce and cats is all you've got in your sad Rolodex of lame insult attempts.

I've been happily married for more than a decade, and I'm proud of our volunteer work regarding cats.

Why you think this is some kind of sick burn just makes me laugh at your lame five-concert ass.

🤣
