The Real timschochet 6,416 Posted September 20, 2023 I’m watching this hearing with Merrick Garland and the Republicans are making such fools of themselves. Perhaps the real reason they want to shut down the government is to prevent their embarrassing themselves in any more of these public hearings.
RLLD 4,143 Posted September 20, 2023 I am assiduously opposed to a shutdown. Firstly, because it is bad for the nation overall. I DO expect debate, contentious debate, to arrive at the best possible outcome. But that requires some level of cooperation. Secondly, I am opposed because it would imperil the impeachment investigation. I believe the Democrats, being feindishly good politicians, are hoping for a shutdown. They will weaponize it for political advantage, but it could also help them in protecting Joe Biden from having his crimes further exposed.

Warren Buffet once said he could fix this problem in a day.....just deny any individual currently in political roles to run for election unless they balanced their spending against revenues.....brilliant..... Voltaire 5,195 Posted September 20, 2023 This use to be my #1 issue for many years. As a teenager back in the 80s, the pundits on Sunday morning TV warned us that the children would have to pay all this spending and it pissed me off. Well now the children are 51 years old and the country has been consistently running up debt like mad the entire time except for a pause in the late 90s. Yet... I dunno. I don't understand why the country hasn't gone bellyup, drowning in red ink. I've been anticipating the moment that Wile E. Coyote looks down ever since President Clinton left office. Somehow, despite four presidents in a row, together with their Congresses, not giving a sh*t, that day has never arrived. Fock if I know how the ship stays afloat. And he’s an arrogant New York Jew who delights in pissing people off. He doesn’t suffer fools very easily. But his economic skills are unrivaled. On June 27, 2008, Krugman wrote in The New York Times: “Regulating futures markets more tightly isn’t a bad idea, but it won’t bring back the days of cheap oil. Nothing will. Oil prices will fluctuate in the coming years—I wouldn’t be surprised if they slip for a while as consumers drive less, switch to more fuel-efficient cars, and so on—but the long-term trend is surely up.” That day, oil traded above $140. It soon plummeted. And despite nearly two decades of inflation, oil has yet to top that nominal high. Let’s review a Krugman prediction about the market more generally (his self-identified specialty). On November 9, 2016, he wrote: “It really does now look like President Donald J. Trump, and markets are plunging. When might we expect them to recover? Frankly, I find it hard to care much, even though this is my specialty. The disaster for America and the world has so many aspects that the economic ramifications are way down my list of things to fear. Still, I guess people want an answer: If the question is when markets will recover, a first-pass answer is never.” Between Krugman’s prediction and the Crash of 2020, the S&P 500 more than doubled and the Nasdaq more than tripled. Guy is a political hack & an idiot.
