posty 2,700 Posted December 15, 2023 https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/39119933/chargers-fire-head-coach-brandon-staley-gm-tom-telesco After 2½ seasons highlighted by lofty expectations and routine letdowns, the Los Angeles Chargers have fired coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco, the team announced Friday. Staley is the second Chargers head coach to be fired midseason since 1970, joining Kevin Gilbride, who was fired in 1998. The Chargers were 24-24 under Staley (through Thursday), with one playoff berth in 2022 that ended with a 27-point blown lead to the Jacksonville Jaguars -- the third-largest comeback in playoff history. Owner Dean Spanos said in a statement, Chargers' fans "deserve more." "These decisions are never easy, nor are they something I take lightly - especially when you consider the number of people they impact," read Spanos' statement. "We are clearly not where we expect to be, however, and we need new vision. Doing nothing in the name of continuity was not a risk I was willing to take. Our fans have stood strong through so many ups and downs and close games. They deserve more. Frankly, they've earned more. The Chargers hired Staley because of his success as a defensive coordinator with the Los Angeles Rams in 2020, where they were the league's best defense in points and yards allowed per game. But Staley never had that impact with the Chargers, despite having star talent and many of his former players. Staley's defensive frustrations came to a head after Thursday's 63-21 drubbing by the Las Vegas Raiders, who were starting backup Aiden O'Connell and were without running back Josh Jacobs. Quarterback Easton Stick made his first start for Los Angeles in place of Justin Herbert, who suffered a fracture to his right index finger in Sunday's loss to the Denver Broncos and is done for the season. It's the second coach the Chargers have fired since drafting Herbert in 2020. Herbert's first coach was Anthony Lynn, who was 33-31 as the Chargers coach from 2017 to 2020 and 7-9 in his final season. ----------- Yeah it happened on the moon as well, but I thought it deserved its own thread... The Real timschochet 6,770 Posted December 15, 2023 At any given time there are only about 5-6 elite quarterbacks in the NFL. Herbert, IMO, is one of those guys. If you’re not winning consistently with him, there’s a problem.
Mike Honcho 5,283 Posted December 15, 2023 On a more serious note, Adrian Griffin(Bucks new HC) is giving me Staley vibes. Level of talent isn't translating consistently on the court.

Gawd. This is almost exactly what I'd like to hear out of the mouth of the Pistons owner. Instead..we get a 22 game losing streak and absolute crickets from ownership Sad. For a team like the Bucks the season is far from even starting. They have like the 2nd best record in the league..... Sloppy play, higher TO"s than they should, constantly playing down to the opponent and poor defense, even considering the downgrade from Holiday to Dame. In addition there have been multiple reports of players clashing with Griffin, only 24 games into the season. IMO, the team's talent has gotten them to those wins and a better coach would have coached them to more. You are right, it's earlier and the change from Holiday to Dame, reintegrating Middleton and a new coach might all be playing into the results, but the inconsistent play worries me. Nice enough guy, but questionable ability as coach. Then again, the Suns have Frank Vogel who is not exactly impressing me. The defense looks like 5 guys in a gym pick-up game.
