The Investment Game Official - Would you rather have: gold, bitcoin, stocks

You will get placed in escrow, $100,000 in any single one of the following:

1.) physical gold coins

2.) bitcoin

3.) single stock of your choice

I was going to thrown in a 1-year CD at 5.5% - but nah....not as fun.   More fun seeing people pick something that could lose value.

 

You get the the actual  then-current value placed into your checking/account of your choice on Dec 31, 2024.

You have until Jan 7th to make your pick.   Waiting til the last minute could hurt you, could help you. 

What you going with? (post the content of what you bought/today's current price).  So if you pick bitcoin, write it like this:  2.29082 bitcoin @ 43,652.50 (current price) = $100,000. If you choose a stock, obviously list the stock.  Obviously we can do the math on dividends a year from now, if you pick a dividend stock. 

We'll revisit this throughout the year.  I'll try to make a table that has everyone's picks

I would do Bitcoin this year.  It has started a robust bull run.  I would expect it to be up about 150 percent this year.   

If you want more upside, I would go with an altcoin, Solana which has absolutely been killing it lately and should continue.   I expect it to overtake ETH.  But BTC upside is intriguing with the possibility of an ETF approval.

Weight loss drug play. Do you own any of it for real ? I own Eli Lilly, which has a similar drug. Considering making LLY my pick for this thread, but I'm concerned that like NVO, it's already had a huge run over the past 5 years.

I don't own any. I don't buy individual stocks anymore.  Not with real money anyway. Lol.  It's been a big run, but I think it's gonna continue to run. 

Unless the gumment/someone steps in and says "whoa....this stuff is ONLY for those diabetes. No exceptions" 

Then the stock could tank.  And if were real money, I wouldn't necessarily hold until Dec 31 2024.

There are only two individual stocks that I have that much invested in. And that's after I sold half my position in each just last Friday.  AMZN and GOOG. So I'll do it, am doing it. 

AMZN at whatever the price is at opening on January 2nd. 

In real life though I'm probably going to sell more in first quarter 2024. Maybe see what kind of bump and where they are at after Q4 earnings report.

In real life, I own 200 shares purchased at $34.63 in 2017. 

Missed my chance to take advantage of the latest rise in bitcoin. Had the right idea (MicroStrategy - MSTR) but didn't follow through. It was around $170 at the time I considered it. Closed at $619.24 today.
