I'm going to need a good explanation as to why California and Texas would EVER team up.

For Liberty and Justice and Freedom, that’s why.

Alex Garland is an interesting director.

He started out as an author and, frankly, I thought his biggest novel (maybe the only one?—the beach) kinda sucked. It was sort of iconic as far as the Thailand backpacking scene goes but he seemed to have a really strange perspective and outlook. I did not really like him much after reading that.

But then he’s done some really great stuff in movies. He wrote 28 Days Later which was just phenomenal. He also wrote Sunshine which, imo, was criminally under appreciated (check it out if you haven’t). He wrote and directed Ex Machina, which was nearly masterful. And he directed and adapted Annihilation, which I think was a pretty difficult task and pulled off better than people appreciated.

So anyway, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and watch this one, although I must say civil war is about the last thing I want to think about right now. Curious timing on that, but I suppose it’s probably part of the purpose?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_War_(film)#/media/File:Civil_war_2024_map.svg

Looking at the map the Civil War is split into 4 regions.

New Peoples Army, Yellow - Makes sense I assume the eastern part of Oregon and Washington take control of that state government and join those states

Dictatorship Loyalist States, Blue - Assume it's a Democrat who is taking over the country so those states make sense Maybe not Iowa, Nebraska, and Indiana might not join and should be NPA

Florida Alliance, Red - Makes sense but probably should include Texas and South Carolina.

Western Forces, Green - Short of Mexico taking over those states but that should include New Mexico and Maybe Arizona (which could be blue) It makes 0 sense for those two states to join forces.

Anyway, what I do know is white people will be painted in the worst light possible in this movie.

I've seen all of those and agree. 28 days later is one of the best zombie flicks ever.

Come on, bro.  You know better than that.  The dictator is going to be a trump clone, of course.

You guys might be going into hysterics over nothing. Alex Garland does not strike me as especially political in his work, at least not in terms of Rs and Ds and so forth

You're probably right but the states on his side don't match up. Like I said the REAL bad guys in this movie will be white people. I'm just trying to figure out the rationale behind the 4 different groups

I didn’t really like any of these movies tbh. Sunshine was really good until the last 30 mins or so, all the others - meh.

Men was my favorite movie from him so far.

I assume all the bad guys in this are white men? And the heroes  are different flavors?

Sad. It could have been good. But as soon as I saw Nick Offerman was in it my woke radar started blinking.

Funny thing is , if they let Texas leave they would. If they let California leave they wouldn’t.

Part of my property in Aiken is a Civil War Battlefield and Field Hospital, true story. They've found several artifacts over the years.

I haven't seen it, but the normal reviewers (i.e. not Breitbart) have all said it's not a political film at all. MAGA always so sensitive...

You're joking, of course.

You might want to take a look at all the sky-screamers on your side of the since at least 2015 - almost a decade - before you start talking about other groups of people being sensitive.  This is something you already knew, though.
