DeSantis would have made a terrible President just as he has been the worst governor of Florida in modern American history. 

However he would not have been a threat to our democratic institutions, so he is infinitely preferable to Trump. And agree he would be way ahead of Biden right now.

The way I was suggested to read polls is to compare the poll numbers to previous polls done by the same organization to get a jist of where the momentum is. Also comparing them to the aggregate

I listened to a Hidden Brain pod today (one of my favs, not political, although it's clear he isn't a Trump fan) which talked about situations where it is better to try less hard.  They started with examples of trying hard to meet women and failing, then when you are relaxed and yourself the women are interested.  Also talked to an amateur tennis player who described how better your game is when you are relaxed and not overthinking.

Then they played a clip from a 2016 candidate.  At the end was complete silence, and the candidate sheepishly said, "please clap."  It was Jeb Bush.  He had no charisma, as we all know.  I don't know if DeSantis is as bad, but he isn't great at it.

Trump however, they said, has it.  Because of his willingness say (or inability to stop himself from saying) whatever comes to his mind, he comes off as "authentic."  Now, people here with TDS will say, "authentic$#@!  He's a lying blah blah blah."  As I've said before, you just don't get it, you are the same people who think people vote for Trump because they are transhomophobophobe mysogiracists.

And by that same analysis, I would say that Biden has negative charisma at this point.  The opposite of authentic.  On the rare occasions he gets the sentence off correctly, he's measured, he yells at weird times.  It's going to hurt him.
