Happy Juneteenth everyone

Recommended Posts

Juneteenth, officially Juneteenth National Independence Day, is a federal holiday in the United States. It is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the ending of slavery in the United States. The holiday's name is a portmanteau of the words "June" and "nineteenth", as it was on June 19, 1865, when Major General Gordon Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas at the end of the American Civil War.[8][9]Although this date commemorates enslaved people learning of their freedom under the Emancipation Proclamation, this only applied to former Confederate states. There remained legally enslaved people in states that never seceded from the Union. These people did not gain their freedom until the ratification of the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution on December 6, 1865.

This is a great white mans holiday.

It's the day a white man served papers to another white man, enforcing new laws after hundreds of thousands of white men died.

Be sure to thank a white man today for the preservation of the Union and black people should thank us for being one of the first countries in the history of the world to abolish slavery.

This is a good holiday.  I like all the holidays that show what a great country this is. Every powerful country had slavery. Only one had a war to end it.  🇺🇸

Well that’s one way to look at it. Another way is that other countries, like England, simply ended it and didn’t have to fight a war to do so.

I don’t believe the Civil War was necessary. I think we could have ended slavery peacefully and gradually without losing a million dead. Pride, stupidity and extremism on all sides prevented this.

In celebration, I'm going to knock some chick up and then leave her with the kid and then maybe go shoot somebody in Chicago.

Happy Juneteenth!

A few months back somebody challenged me to provide evidence of blatant racist posts in this forum. I would say this is a good example.

Yes, because black people have never made fun of white people stereotypes ever.  GTFO.

Ever heard of the Chapelle Show?  Youtube?  Tiktok?

I think the federal government should consider making this an observed holiday on a Monday.  Businesses still wouldn't have to close, but for those that wanted to it'd make it a lot easier for consistency if some could just allow everyone to have an extended weekend.  I'd advocate to get that added into our handbook.  A Wednesday in the middle of June on a day (the 19th) most don't recognize the significance of?  Yeah, not so much.

Happy juneteenth.  Let us take this day to remember the atrocities timschocet's family inflicted upon generations of black Americans.

You are still off base. You call everyone "racist" who doesn't agree with your anti American takes.

You, are part of the problem.

I just emailed the Washington bureau of the NAACP and asked if there were any unintended consequences of the holiday being observed on the third Monday of June.  If not I might try and make it happen.

A simple thank you would suffice

You don’t need to thank anyone living. None of us freed anyone.

Oh, cool. Then that means we don't need to pay anyone the dumb reparations either.

Since we can't take credit, we shouldn't then have to take blame.  Glad we could agree!

None of us enslaved anyone either.  And no living AA has ever been a slave.    A lot of "none" to go around on this issue.  Nothingburger seems appropriate too.

You seem to forget history: White Hoods were a hallmark of the Democrat Party, not the Republican Party.

And my point stands - if we (today's white people) don't get credit because we weren't around to free them, then we (today's white people) don't get the blame either.

Negative, but I give you a "B" for effort on trying to hide from your past and blame others.

This is so far over Timmy's tiny brain he can't compute.

This kind of Timmy talk didn't start happening until the last 15 years of liberal lunacy started occurring. Obama was the #1 worst president of all time. Creepy joe will soon be gone and a few executive orders can be used to reverse all the shlt that he did, but obama destroyed the minds of the weak in this country something bad. Liberals will never mentally recover.

Powerless poor white people that owned non slaves get more blame about slavery in the United States than rich bankers and landowners that brought them here and owned them. Nifty trick.

(meaning each person has to do what's best for them, do what you enjoy most, or what suits your personality)

WTF are you talking about?  My family is from China.  They probably go back to the Ming dynasty.  That doesn't mean I can relate to ancient China.   How many generations are you removed from anyone who had anything to do with slavery?
