The DEI party cannot jump over Kamala with someone like Newsome. Won't happen.  And Joe's warchest can only go to Kamala.  Quite the quandary they've put themselves into.

The VP does not automatically become President if the President decided to not run again.   Then it has to go to the convention.   If Biden resigned before the convention, well then the VP takes over.   But if he decides to not run, it isn't automatically given to the VP

If biden quits, they lose all the donations sent in for biden. I think there is one exception. It may be kameltoe can use the money but I forget the rule. 

Plus there is the deal with all the states and their balloting. It would be complex if he takes it up to the convention.
