They didn't show the whole video so who knows? They didn't talk about any currently known crime in the area, or racial profiling for certain reasons, or anything of substance. 

Bad news story. Too many unknowns. Why did they even report that? It just stirs up quick reactions in people.

No problem with the stop and inquiry. Looking out for a kid. After it had been established it was his kid it’s over, and that could have been done easily with a phone call.

What if it was?  Do you believe child trafficking involves strolling down allys with the child unrestrained and then not avoiding contact with the police when they turn into the alley?  This is America, we are allowed to walk with our children in the quite of dawn before the heat and the noise of the 4th of July explodes.  We would be allowed to walk our dogs, go for a predawn run, or push our babies in strollers and that is not considered, as the Cop said, "supicious activity".  Apparently to that Cop not being sealed up in one's home with the doors locked and the shades drawn is suspuicious activity and of course if you were behind locked doors whith the shades drawn that Cop would ahve claimed tyhat is consistent with the activity at a meth den or crack house.

 

This Cop was way out of line.  He should be severely discioplined and retrained before being allowed to continue his career.  The Citizen should get a nice settlement from the City, nothing outlandish, but some settlement to address his civil rights being violated and his son being traumatized.

No, the Cop is not well within his rights.  There was no reasonable articulable suspicion of any illegal activity.  There was no investigation.  If the Cop thought the scene was worthy of further observation or consensual inquiry that's fine but demanding I.D. under the circumstance was not justified nor, was going hands on.  This was a case of a Cop not having been properly trained and not wanting to feel on equal terrms with a citizen when that is exactly what he was.  He was overly officious to try to establish authority and he was so as he was poorly trained. The Cop did not understand the situation. 

 

How the Cop should have handled it.

 

Cop:  Good morning citizens,! Out for a predawn walk?

Dad:  Yes we like to go for a walk when we wake up.

Cop:  Well be aware that we are out here, patrolling your neighbor, keeping things safe.  Say which house is yours?  We like to get to know the folks on our beat.

Dad:  The blue one, third house on the left.  

Cop:  Well if you ever need anything ask for me, I'm Officer Friendly, and you are...?

Dad:  Answers whatever his name happens to be.

Cop:  (Turning to and addresing child) And who do we have here?

Kid:  Answers whatever.

Cop: And is that your brother you are out walking with? 

Kid:  (laughing) No, that's my Dad.

Cop:  Well you two be safe and have a nice walk.  Say, do you want a stricker of a police badge, I have some in the car?

Kid:  Dad, can I.

Dad:  Sure:  Make sure you thank Officer Friendly.

 

Cop could easily have gotten his information consensually and in a manner both friendly and making a positive impact.  Instead he chose to be a deeck because he thinks that is being a Cop.  He is wrong.

Col handled this terribly. He shouldn’t be fired for this alone but this is a red flag for this guy. Maybe he’s more suited for giving parking tickets and such.

Except that I don’t believe that everyone is treated the same by police in our society. 

Though it doesn’t apply to this situation, what @Patented Phil was referring to is my general belief that, in many instances, black people, and young black men in particular,  are treated differently and unfairly by police, leading to tragic outcomes like George Floyd.

I agree black people are treated differently.  But unfairly?  That I don’t agree with.  Stereotypes exist for a reason.  Blacks commit crimes at a higher rate than whites.  They also resist arrest at a higher rate.  That’s just fact.  You may not like it, but as Ben Shapiro says, “Facts don’t care about your feelings.”

Be careful Phil, those on the other side don't like facts/figures. My last supervisor was ultraliberal. I quoted some facts similar to those.

But you’re referring to them as a collective. “Stop committing so many crimes.” I thought conservatives believed in individualism. But it’s OK with you that a black individual who has never committed any crimes is treated differently by police, and profiled, because other people with the same skin color have committed crimes. Wait, not long ago you said that MAGA is violent and gave a list of like 50 incidents over 4 years as "proof".  If 12.5 incidents a year are "proof" to make a collective judgement, then I think everyone (blacks, whites, Asians, Hispanics, democrats, and republicans), surpassed that requirement before January 7th this year.  So what he's saying isn't wrong.
