LA Wildfires, 100K people evacuated and counting

Yes but not in this area. There have been fires in the past but nothing like this. And in this case it’s based on severe drought and impossibly strong winds, not the items you chose to highlight.

These winds are not the Santa Ana winds; they are something else because they are hitting us as well (although not nearly as bad, yet anyway).

We have had a drought as well, even for a desert.  It hadn't rained here in months until...

... I was going to type the above this morning, but I had a kitten on my lap so I just thought about it.  A few minutes later I looked outside, and it was drizzling.  Not much, but when you've had zero for so long, it seemed like God had answered a small prayer.

The coming 4-6 weeks are one of our two "rainy" seasons, hopefully we get some because we've been severely lacking.

Why would one of the biggest economies in the world have to cut a measly 20 million from the fire department of its largest city? What was the money used for?

Not a fan of Karen Bass. I wanted the other guy to win. I’m not gonna call her a POS like @Strike though. I don’t think a mayor can cut funding on her own, that’s  done by the city council I think: also the trip to Ghana is typical for big city mayors and in truth there are advantages to be gained by such trips in terms of trade and investment opportunities. It’s just bad luck that she is there right now.

All in all it’s not a good look for her but trying to blame her for this catastrophe would be misguided.

LA has a tremendous economy AND the city budget faces shortfalls- both can be, amd are true at the same time,

Proud of the GC…no conspiracy theories about how the fire was started by the Feds or the like.

These vids are beyond description. Terrible. Despite what people think about California’s forest management this wouldn’t have been something that could be prevented.

Spark in one of the canyons and 90 mile an hour Santa Ana winds there’s nothing that can be done.

Good luck SoCal.

Will this have any affect on the playoff game?

I doubt it.  The stadium is 20+ miles southeast of the fires.  I suppose the air might be dirtier than usual if the winds are right.  But I can't see it being canceled.

Many people are saying blue cars have been unharmed.

The wind gusts might be more of a problem.  I'm not sure how long that's expected to continue.  Rams/Vikes isn't until Monday though, so I would think the winds would pass by then.

So far apparently the Getty Villa actual buildings are unharmed which bodes well for the homes above it (where my FIL’s home is) but who knows? I think their church may have burned down.

No water for the fire hydrants. But I bet everyone got their diversity training.

If this thing about no water in the hydrants is real, that's a huge thing...HUGE.....

40% of CA water is used for agriculture, only 10% is for people directly (and fire hydrants). The other 50% is used to "restore the environment".

Word on my LE board is that many of these fires are started by the homeless.

I’d rather we send them to Panama and Greenland once the transfer of power occurs.

Trump has long history of warning Newsom over 'terrible' wildfire prevention

'Get your act together Governor. You don’t see close to the level of burn in other states,' Trump said in 2019

Yeah none of this is relevant to the current crisis. And anyhow it’s total bullsh!t

Speaking of Rick Caruso whom I wanted to be mayor, his shopping center, Palisades Village, is completely gone, burned to the ground. This was one of the most beautiful retail centers I’ve ever seen. Took years to build. What a tragedy, just terrible.

Greenland would be a good holding pen for illegals while waiting to be deported

Buddy of mine who has a home in Pasadena but has moved to Boise said they evacuated his old neighborhood last night. He has kept his house there and has been staying in touch with the neighbors. As of now their neighborhood hasn’t lost anything. Terrible situation, just unimaginable.

No I’m not, but some folks in here looking to use this as an excuse to attack liberals (not that they ever need one) is focking disgusting. I could just as easily attack conservatives for ignoring climate change, and with a whole lot more merit, but I’m not going to do that, because it won’t change anything and frankly it’s not the time to have that discussion. Thousands of people are waiting to find out if their homes burned down, including my loved ones. This is a terrible tragedy. You guys that want to attack Newsom or Bass or libs in general, go f*ck yourselves. Seriously.

And here you are arguing with dudes on a message board instead of lending a hand in a disaster literally in your backyard.
