Public Land Sale - yes or no

In the Big Beautiful Bill (this is the name we are going with ) is a plan to sell off between 2-3 million acres of public lands.

I think this is an issue that all it needs is publicity and it will get tabled. Like the Montana Senator (and former Secretary of Interior) did for his state getting Montana land removed from this.

There are serious budget issues and revenue needs to be found but this is a terrible way to get it.

Public land is sold off to developers everywhere everyday. Where I'm at there's more demand than supply, all of my properties have at least doubled in value over the past 6 years. I've sold many off already and am possibly to selling a ranch in GA to a developer.

I am opposed to this idea.  That said, if it comes to pass I will certainly look at what is for sale in Colorado or Wyoming.  Something not too far off current roadways with a bit of trees and some water, either a lake or a stream would have me interested.

The biggest land owner in the country is the govt. The land being proposed has been leased out before.  It depends for how much, what for and to who.

It depends. If it's any land that hasnt been developed yet, then I'm a no. From what I understand it was a very small amount and it wasn't a preserve or anything like that. Not 100% sure on what the specifics are.

This is absurdity. As a guy from the upper midwest that was fortunate enough to live on the west coast/southwest for years, I marveled at how much public land there was and spent a lot of time enjoying it. It's amazing for recreation; but not much else. Affordable housing in this country is an oxymoron until 3D printed homes or some other alternative become more widely produced. Builders won't touch "affordable housing" because they can't turn a big enough profit to make it worthwhile. And if Trump has told us anything about himself, it's that he's profit-driven.

This land will all end up in the hands of corporations run by donors.

Yep. In the case of Washington some of the areas that would be left exposed are crazy. Super pristine areas. In those cases I think there would be riots if they tried to sell them.

The Montana guy got his state removed from the list which I’d like someone to explain why and how that worked.

If there are some plots of land in areas that are adjacent to existing home sites that could be explored but this needs to be done very slowly and thoughtfully.

If there's one thing we can get the far left tree-hugging dirt worshippers and the far right arsenal-owning militia types on the same page about, it's love and reverence for the outdoors and mother nature. Also, looking at the map of eligible land in the OP link:  I wonder how much an Aleutian Island would cost?  That would be better than, say, buying a star IMO.

Well, that's not going to generate much revenue for the feds... biggest use for some of the land in AZ is probably mining.  Some company just bought land east of Phoenix for a copper mine; the Apaches claim it was an ancient burial ground (the tribes always do this), but remarkably, the 9th Circuit narrowly approved it.

Mining, of course, can come with some significant environmental concerns, so I hope this is monitored closely.  But, we do need more copper.
