Fnord 2,363 Posted 17 hours ago I didn't know a lot about Kirk other than the basic stuff until yesterday. Dude was impressive. I disagreed with much of what he said, but here was a guy that was engaging in calm debate, in public, to espouse his political views. He willingly debated people that disagreed with him. He said some fiery things, but did not encourage violence. He was beloved by teens and college students. What he accomplished was remarkable. He was a highly intelligent, motivated young man with a wife and two young children. He did it the right way. These things should be in the forefront of our thoughts when expressing anger over his murder. 5 1

Her and Charlie did work very well together. Actual normal question. No doubt it will continue, I think Kirk had a few big positives: he was a very good public speaker, he genuinely enjoyed debate with people of opposing viewpoints, but most importantly he was a true autodidact. He was very well read & self educated. Kirk had some serious hatred from the extreme right for those reasons. If the outcome of all this is the GOP wants to return to its roots in this way it would be fine.

SaintsInDome2006 465 Posted 16 hours ago LSU used to have something called Free Speech Alley. In particular David Duke first became known by debating there in full Nazi uniform. But no one hurt each other. Other schools like UT have also had such a tradition. Nothing wrong with what Kirk was doing, but recently he was essentially a campaigner, organizer & fundraiser. Basically a campaign consultant & political activist with a youth niche & he was very valuable even instrumental to the 2024 win.

Political violence makes me focking sick, and to see so many people on the left react with glee, followed by those on the right calling for more violence... I was shaking at one point and close to vomiting a couple times, which is the first time I've had a reaction like that to an event since 9/11. Individuals must make the decision for themselves to understand political differences are just that. Differences. Not blood feuds. Not good v. evil. We cannot dehumanize each other. We are all Americans. We disagree about a lot. But we're in this together, and we'll sink or swim together, too. 1

Quote On September 11, 2025, The Wall Street Journal cited a law enforcement bulletin regarding the shooting of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. The publication reported that authorities found a rifle, believed to be the murder weapon, with ammunition "etched with expressions of transgender and antifascist ideology". The .30 caliber rifle was found by a college-age suspect in a wooded area in Utah.

One caller said the person was also wearing a black vest. Authorities on Thursday said the shooter "appeared to be of college age."
