This is thread in which I hope to engage in discussion here about anything other than politics. All are welcome but if you try to raise political issues here I will ignore you. 
 

Busy weekend for me: tonight I am going to see the film Nuremberg. I love historical dramas of this sort but this one got some mediocre reviews so far; still I’m hoping for the best. Will report back. 
 

Tomorrow night I am at So Fi Stadium to see my Steelers against the Chargers. I try to attend Steelers games whenever they’re in town which is usually every 3 years or so. Pittsburgh played very well last week at home but this will be a bigger test on the road. Can they contain Herbert? I have my doubts, frankly.

I am currently reading 5 different books:

1. A Dangerous Fortune by Ken Follett. This is a re-read. I read it first about 20 years ago. It may be my favorite Follett novel. It’s about a British bank in the 19th century. Reminds me of Dickens. Really enjoyable. 

2. If It Bleeds by Stephen King. This is part of my attempt to read his Holly Gibney saga. I enjoyed the Mr. Mercedes trilogy, and the first half of the Outsider, then it started to slog. This novella continues the slog. I’m determined to get through it so I can read Holly and Never Flinch but it’s getting harder. 
 

3. Crooks by Lou Berney. This is a new author for me and I love him. I’ve read 2 novels so far, Dark Ride was an excellent thriller. This book about an Italian crime family is awesome, maybe the best novel I’ve read in a few years. 

4. The Civil War by Shelby Foote. This is taking forever but I’m really enjoying it. It’s 3 volumes, 7000 pages. I’m deep into Volume 1. Strong narrative. I hope to finish it before I’m dead. 

5. Warlock by Jim Starlin. This is a comic book from the 70s. I’m rereading it on my Marvel unlimited app. I’m going to read all of the Jim Starlin Thanos stories through the years. Thanos is one of the great supervillains.

I may have to read A Dangerous Fortune, sounds interesting. 

King does a fantastic job of setting the stage and making you feel there but in my opinion he never succeeds in making the ending as good as the leading up to it. I’m always a bit disappointed at the end.

I love Civil War books, documentaries and author interviews. 

An aside:  You know, I thought Heavy Metal magazine ended years ago. Apparently, it’s still around.

Tim absolutely knows what onlyfans is.  Not saying he has been there but any guy, and honestly any woman who says they don't know what it is is likely lying. It has received a lot of news and mainstream attention since it sort of blew up during covid. 

My personal experience is that I have definitely clicked on links taking me to girls account pages. I have never subscribed to any because I don't really understand paying for pron. Yes, part of the allure is that there are more average women with accounts so it's not all the same plastic pron stars you see elsewhere, and you can "chat" with them... but from what I understand if it's a popular account with a lot of traffic you are likely talking to some sweaty dude who gets paid to run the accounts.

I know a woman who graduated from my high school several years before me who has one. I was on a date a few years ago and the (different) woman is telling me about one of her divorced friends who has one and makes good side money off it. Claimed it was a lot of foreign guys asking for custom feet videos, etc. Maybe it was her, who knows 

I have a rarely used instagram account for following sports stuff and sharing dumb reels in a group chat and every time an onlyfans model pops up in my feed, it tells me that my cousin follows them. He must follow 1,000 onlyfans model IG accounts. I find it shocking that his wife allows this. I would think she would rather him subscribe to their content (maybe he does) and just watch pron. It's the fact that other people who they follow on IG can see who he is following.

The ego on this guy to think he needs to create "Tim's thread" to discuss non political stuff as if he is the go to poster people want to chat with on this forum. 

We have plenty of people who start non political threads and participate in non political things. A better thing to do would be just create less political topics that flood the first page. Be a part of the solution. Not a "look at me" separate thread.

I read other articles about this when it first became public and, IIRC, she also needed money to care for her mother or something.  I don't really buy that she was never paid much for her acting.  Maybe on the Sopranos but she was the star of a Friends spinoff with Matt Leblanc (Joey).  Granted, it only last a couple of years IIRC but as the star of a sitcom based on one of the biggest sitcoms ever I have to believe she made decent money for those couple of years.  She also had an ongoing role in Sons of Anarchy which, while not a starring role, had to pay decent when she was in an episode.  Regardless, she clearly needed the money and onlyfans basically saved her.  I don't think she does full on porn.  I've never visited her page.  But whatever she does on it seems to be working for her.

Lol. No ego involved, thought it would be fun to discuss topics that interest me other than politics. If people aren’t interested they won’t post. 
 

Also I’m not looking to be part of any “solution” here. I enjoy all the political threads. Politics interest me. I don’t see a problem with them.

Damn. I haven’t really thought of this magazine since, I dunno, the early 80s when the movie came out?

What you’re describing is true of his later work, not IMO his earlier classic stuff. 
 

Personally I divide King’s books into two eras- from 1974 to about 1995, in which almost everything he wrote, around 90% if it is worth reading. That ends for me around the time of The Green Mile. 
 

The second era, from 1996 to now, is hit or miss. There are a few standouts: 11/22/63, Under the Dome. I enjoyed, but did not love, The Institute and the Bill Hodges trilogy. But the rest is for me a lot of misses.

The average life span for US males is 75 years. This means I have probably lived 80% of my life already. I can’t afford to waste one second of the remaining 20% on anything to do with Ewoks (and for that matter, Star Wars.)

Nuremberg was very good but not great. I feel like the courtroom scenes could have been more dramatic than they were. Overall I give the movie a B. Russell Crowe, however. , gave an Oscar worthy performance IMO.
