Guy I know was killed last night

Recommended Posts

On his way home from work on I 94 Riding a motorcycle. Some one behind him hit him. He went down, the guy who hit him swerved to avoid running him over and it looks like someone in the line of traffic behind them hit him. His bike burst into flames and is charred. Dude had 2 boys around my kids age and was a very very experienced rider.

That's really sad. It's the reason I sold my bike. Especially now with drivers more distracted than ever to go along with the countless HORRIBLE drivers on the road. People who pull out in front of you or merge in front of you. A lot of times its not just because that person is a dlck, it's because that person genuinely doesn't realize how dangerous a move like that is. That's the scary part of bad drivers imo.

Sorry for the loss of a friend. Sad for the family left behind.

I realize there are plenty of bad drivers who cause bike accidents, but there are plenty of show-off bikers who drive without respect for other drivers too.

Of course there are, but that's not really what this thread is about.

In todays distracted driving world I think that you got to be a moron to drive a motorcycle on the highway.

edit: I don't know where to put my apostrophe in todays so I'm kind of a moron too.

No kidding. I've had enough pieces of sh*t nearly sideswipe me/cut me off while they stared at their phone at 70+ mph in my car. A motorcycle is practically at the mercy of any of those mouth breathers.

I guess I really needed this thread

First off sorry about your friend and sad for his family.

As recent as yesterday I've been thinking about getting a bike - this thread is making me think twice.

I was too. I actually checked some bikes out a few weeks back. Now I am thinking of buying a tank instead. Just let fools bounce off me.

That sucks. Very sorry to hear about your friend.

I was rear-ended as I was stopped in highway traffic a couple of weeks ago. Definitely a distracted driver.

Sorry for the loss man.

For those contemplating riding a street bike, just don't.

Get a dirt bike or something.

This makes me sick. I do not mean to dwell on it but when someone that has kids your kids age it hits home. It makes you think what would happen to your kids if you died. I mean he would be fine physically but the mental side of it never goes away. My gf's dad died in a car accident when she was young. Like under 10 and she never really recovered. She still has issues dealing with that. The guy was not a close friend. He was a team leader but someone that I interacted with every day and someone who would come eat his lunch in my office while we bullshitted about guns, girls, bikes, low paid employees. Someone who was a work friend for sure.

Yeah it seems crazy to me to drive around on a motorcycle. You cannot control other peoples' actions. No matter how good of a rider you are it's often out of your hands

And every accident on a motorcycle is about 10 times as lethal compared to if you're in a car. That's why I could never do it. 20 MPH accident in a car could be a fender bender and a sore neck, 20 MPH on a motorcycle could be your life.

I know how you feel. One of my sons classmates father got killed work DSNY. Was working on his street sweeper and an inexpirenced summer help kid ran him over.

Our whe town was in serious morning. Everyone chipped in a GoFundMe page that raised a boatload of money.

Santitatiom workers came from other states for the funeral mass. Was crazy.

Kid seems to be doing well. Not easy but adapting.

Where I live is a nightmare. Can't really drive a car. It would be next to useless traffic is so slow. Constant swarm of bikes everywhere. Pavement is like the surface of the moon. I have several near misses daily.

You really learn how to avoid trouble. Anticipate the idiots and get away.

I did finally get a helmet at least.

I'm really sorry that you lost your work friend. Your psyche is bound to dwell on that for a while, when you've interacted with someone that much and talked about life together.

My brother hasn't ridden his bike in a while and I almost want to link him this thread so he doesn't get tempted to (think he's looking to sell it).

sorry to hear kilroy... it's sobering how quickly everything can change... in an instant... through no fault or control of your own... good guy, bad guy, hard working, lazy, religious, atheist... it doesn't matter... the randomness of the world is scary.

Same when it happened to us. I think it was the incredible support the family was given from the community. And his kids of course.

First off, so sorry to read this about your friend kilroy, that is horrible.

I bought a bike about 22 years or so ago. Could not wait to get out on it.

One thing you notice on a motorcycle is how many folks drive distracted. In fact, after seeing these morons almost kill me every single day, and that was before folks had cell phones, I sold it 6 months later.

You can be the most experienced, best biker ever. It is all the other jackasses that you have to worry about. All it takes is one idiot and you are dead.

I'm sorry to say this, but a good friend of mine works in the coroners office. He refers to bike riders as organ donors. He sees them to many times laying on the slab.

I've told this story here before. A guy I knew in Houston Was young, good-looking, Partner in a law firm, Pulling wool all over town. He rode a bike And refused to wear a helmet. He was going 20-25 miles an hour A few blocks away from his home But hit A rough patch in the road And was thrown from his bike into Telephone pole. Dead on the spot. Talk about a damn waste.

..Other than the fact that no motorcycles were involved And The lady was far from Saved. You're spot-on. What was that? A year ago now? I really do sort of live in your head don't I?

Wow.

It is natural man, let the feeling you have "out". To me, there ARE times men can stop being a MAN and show and feel emotion.

Stay strong and be there for the kids.

On another public broadcast note - I hope the wife and kids were taken care of and not put into a financial bind. Remember Geeks, this could happen to anyone. Are you prepared?
