People that lose a lot of weight

Recommended Posts

Is it a thing that people who lose a lot of weight look older after? Few people I work with that are in their mid-50's have lost 30+ pound (my guess). I want to say they look great, but they look closer to death than before. Maybe it's just because I associate weight loss with cancer/death. Or maybe they do legitimately look older now. :dunno:

I can't change the title. Should say "People who lose a lot of weight"

Could be because they lost it in an unhealthy way. Those people tend to be vitamin deficient.

over the past 3 years i have dropped about 40 lbs (would like to drop about 15 more). not sure friends would mention if i looked worse, but many give me the "you look great!" no sagging skin because of the slow decrease.

Back about 3 years ago I was in a job with no travel and got into a weight loss kick. I'm 5'11" with a small frame and got into the 150s. I visited my wife's family and they were all "wow, you look... skinny!" which in hindsight was like maybe I looked like I was dying. They are all fat fwiw. I'm sure penny would say that I was at an appropriate weight. Anyway, now I'm in a job where I travel and eat crap more often than I'd like and my weight is between 175 and 180. I'd like to get in the 170-175 range but the wife hasn't called me a fatty yet so we'll see. :dunno:

Pen wouldve considered you only mildly overweight, although still odious in other respects no doubt.

Congrats!

Too bad youre a CBF now though :(

Easiest Way for Pear Shapes to Lose Weight

Pear shapes have larger buttocks, hips and thighs than apple shapes, as well as a smaller waist. The good news is that it's healthier to carry weight in your lower body than your middle; belly fat is linked to illnesses such as Type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Fat in the hips and legs is subcutaneous rather than visceral, meaning it lies just under the skin instead of around your organs like much of the abdominal fat. However, subcutaneous fat is more difficult to shed. The easiest way for pear shapes to lose weight is with a multitiered approach of diet and exercise.

This should be helpful to at least one poster.

Yeah, you were a healthy weight, though at the low end. Now you're at the high end of the range. People have no concept of what constitutes healthy, as society has adjusted for all the CBF.

When I lost around 60 pounds in less than a year, I had saggy skin. Most notably the Turkey wattle. Ive gained much of it back unfortunately.

That sucks. Knock it off again. I feel like shlt when I start to put the weight back on

It's realllllly difficult to keep not off, but you can do it! Need to enlist your fiancee to help you lead a more healthy lifestyle, both diet and exercise.

Yeah, Ive gotten quite good at losing weight. I am terrible at maintaining though.

When I first came here, I lost weight so fast. I was walking miles a day, eating a much better diet, etc. I was also out dancing and chasing tail and drinking like a fish three our four nights a week.

My first year here, I was constantly having to go the tailor to have my clothes taken in. I eventually even got to where I could buy some clothes here (my height was still problematic of course).

Its slowly come back. I got sick of Chinese food, and got back into too much unhealthy western food (there are no healthy western options here. Western means pizza and burgers.)

As mentioned above, I feel like sh!t now. No energy, etc. I also hate that when we travel, I cant do cool things like treks and climbing mountains because Im so horribly out of shape.

Im working on it again though. I have almost four months till the wedding. Want to drop 20-30 by then. Cutting out any drink besides water (Ive been drinking way too much cola). No more pizza and burger. Pretty much rice and veggies and bullshit for a while. Sucks.

Need to start exercising badly too. Dont want to join a gym right now, as Im moving in three months, so might as well wait till we get there. I guess Ill go walking around the city. Unfortunately, its beginning to get hot as Fock, so that will be unpleasant.

I dont want to lift either. Im afraid with the double hernia surgery I had that would cause problems. I still have periods of slight pain from that two years later.

I quit about a month ago. Its true what people say. The cravings dont really go away.

So now I dont smoke. I dont drink. I rarely smoke weed anymore as a quarter of mid grade costs about $170. I get some when I have days off around the house once in a while.

Getting old and boring sucks.

It is all about self control.

And changing your way of life.

I used to drink soft drinks. I quit them. Now if I ever have a sip of one it astes exactly like what it is. Sugar water. Doesnt taste good at all.

Unless you think drinking and smoking are the only exciting things in life, it doesn't have to be this way. There are plenty of fun things to experience in middle age and beyond. The possibilities diminish if you don't take care of your health when young though.

Pizza is pretty piss poor in most of the south here. I can't imagine it's any better in Chiner.

Fock lifting. It's no fun, and an accident waiting to happen. The most reliable exercise is one you enjoy.

And learn to cook. Or get you fiancee to do so. Either way, it's way easier to prepare healthier dishes you'll actually like.

It's incredible how tough it is for people to lose weight. I know some of it has to with your body. But people who just don't have the power to do it. I was up over 200 lbs prolly 3 months ago or so which is ridiculous for me. So I basically just cut out sugar and started to eat a little healthier. I'm already back down to 189, wanna get to 185.

My ex gfs sister was morbidly obese. Like. I was sure she was gonna die before 30. Probably 400 lbs. She had the lap band surgery and lost 290 lbs. She is a better person to be around. Looks younger. Acts younger. It's crazy how the mass weight loss effected her attitude

I know, I was mostly kidding. I still drink occasionally. I can't remember the last time though. Months ago.

I hope I haven't already condemned myself to a miserable middle age and early death.

Pizza is pretty piss poor in most of the south here. I can't imagine it's any better in Chiner.

For the most part, yes. There is one place near me that does a pretty decent pepperoni pizza. Everything else they have there is weird sh!t like durian (smells like dead ass hole) and salmon and avocado and such.

There are some foreign owned places in the city that have quite good pizza, but I rarely want it bad enough to spend an hour round trip on the subway. That's pretty much true of foreign food in general here. Unfortunately, I don't live in the hip trendy areas where all that stuff is.

Yeah, I guess I've just never really found much in the way of exercise I enjoy. I play badminton occasionally. Its semi fun if you have people that are the appropriate skill level, which I currently don't. I would, in theory, like to get into hiking and whatnot more.

My sister was well over 300 lbs a few years ago. She had gastric bypass, and promptly dropped over 150. She too, is much more pleasant to be around now. I get it, being a chronic fatty myself. You hurt all the time, have little energy, and everything just seems so hard when you're in that state.

I advocate for lifting. Dont go heavy, but there are studies that show an increase in testosterone. That will always make you feel better. Low weight, high rep, proper form, squeezing the muscles you are targeting in the exercise.

Agreed. I didn't interpret your post about lifting as you advocating that people becoming muscle heads. I think getting some cardio and doing some high reps covering all the major muscle groups is great for you.

What do you do? :dunno:

Well, now that I dont smoke or drink, and barely eat... not much?

Go to work. Talk to you fools. Read. Watch stuff. On Saturday we go to the mall and eat a good meal. Thats about it really, during the school year. During breaks, we travel.

Have summer coming. Wedding at the end of July in the Philippines. Then my parents, who will be at the wedding, and us, are going to Palawan, which is supposedly one of the most beautiful islands on earth. Im getting scuba certified, and dad and I will go diving in some Japanese WWII wrecks. Looking forward to that.

May do some travel in china after that, well see how the money holds out.

For national holiday in October japan is the plan.

Next February, planning to do Israel and Egypt. That will be focking amazing.

Then two months in the us next summer.

That sort of stuff is what I look forward to I guess. The rest of the time is just earning the money to pull it off. I need to do a better job of making some friends next year. Maybe some guys I can play sports and hike and sh!t with.

This guy gets it. Dieting and cardio is going to burn some muscle in addition to fat. This type of lifting is safe and a way to maintain muscle tone while slimming down. Muscle also burns more calories when at rest than fat.

Diet is 75% of weight loss / maintenance. Cardio plus low weight / high rep lifting is a great workout.

I got a herniated disc in my neck a year ago, for months I could barely use my left arm because of pain numbness and weakness. Couldnt come close to doing a push-up for months.

I probably gained 10-15 pounds that year due to inactivity. I started just doing body weight exercises, push-ups (rotate elevated and wide versus narrow hand positions to target different muscles) sit-ups, etc. worked up from 10 to 20 to 40, now I do 100 a day, 200 crunches, try to generally eat healthy give or take. And I do cardio a few times a week. Much better shape now, got rid of what I gained and am feeling much better

Afraid to break out my heavy weights and bench because I still have numbness and dont want to risk it. Good enough for now

Dont give in. If my joints and ligaments were able to handle heavier weight, I would lift heavy all the time. The temptation to up the weight is always there though

This is similar to what I do, but Im old.

50 push ups and 100 crunches plus stretching in the morning, then the same at night.

Walk the dog twice a day, then mix in some karate and dumbbell curls twice a week.

I also try to run around as much as possible while coaching youth hoops, baseball or football.

Occasionally, Ill play a half court pick up game.

This is incorrect. I lifted weights for 20+ years. I just suggested Titans find something he enjoys rather than hitting the gym. But low weight resistance exercise is OK as a supplement.
