Who was the first player you EVER drafted in fantasy football?

Peyton Manning, at the start of his second season, I think.

I also didn't do very well. I had done a lot of reading about players, but had no clue how different a FF draft operates compared to an NFL draft (RBs going early, etc.). And for whatever reason, I was concerned with drafting young players, despite the fact that it was a redraft league.

I learned a lot in a very short time. The hard way. But nothing could salvage that brutal first season...

Similar story. I also semi-lucked out getting Marshall Faulk in the third. I didn't know about runs on RBs, so I got him the first year of the greatest show on turf, but we had a quirk in our scoring system where you got 3 points for 75 receiving or 75 rushing plus 1 for every 25 after, and Faulk put up a lot of 65 rushing and 70 receiving type games. Stephen Davis went in the 15th round that year, too.

Mark Rypien. I had Troy Aikmanitis. A real good NFL QB but pretty shittacular when it came to FF.

Actually I don't remember the first, but my first QB was Scott Mitchell I believe in the 4th round 1996.

Was either Carl Pickens (don't ever buy the Bengals hype) or Jerry Rice.

Either way, neither good that year as Pickens suxor and Rice broke his ankle.

I should say first off that I played in salary cap leagues the first few years of me playing fantasty football.

By the time I started doing actual drafts, my 1st ever draft pick, with the #1 overall pick was......

Terrell Davis 1999

Mine was also the first year of "The Greatest Show On Turf". My first 2 picks were Keyshawn and Brunell, don't remember which one was first. I made up for it though by taking a gamble on Edge and then with my final pick I got a nobody named Kurt Warner!

DISCLAIMER! WARNER WAS NOT MY IDEA!!!

Actually, I only had 1 qb going into round 17. A few of the "vets" started talking up Warner as a joke. Then they started telling me that I should get him because he was an "awesome!" QB. Of course being the newbie that didn't know sh!t. I took him and they laughed and yelled saying the usually things you would hear when someone makes that stupid pick. In the end, I made the playoffs, but made no noise because I had no depth and had no clue what I was doing. Great times!!

Steve Young. And then I was shocked to get Barry Sanders in the 2nd. Couldn't believe he was still there. It didn't take me long to realize that it was a TD only league and Barry would bust off 50 yd runs and then get yanked out at the goal line. Screw you Tommy Vardell.

I also remember having Marion Butts on that same team.

I think Andre "Bad Moon" Rison was my 1st ever pick

I do remember the 1st ever player drafted at my very 1st ever fantasy football draft by someone else.

The fall of 1990 and the player was Joe Montana

I do remember my 1st ever fantasy title, my QB was Jim "Chris" Everett

1993 local start up league using the Miller Lite point rules.

1.04 Steve Young

Others

Neal Anderson

Barry Foster  that year any way

Anthony Miller

Andre Reed

Haywood Jeffries

TE Steelers ???

Steelers Def.

Most of the league were Bungles fans so I caught a lot of flak for stocking up on Steelers.

Nice story. My first pick was #6 in 2001. Daunte Culpepper, and I think Fred Taylor on the way back down.

My first league was not online, and whenever I would call my commish to pick up a player she (<--there in lies the problem) would say that she already picked him up. It was the wild west for transactions. I started my own league the next year that has been together ever since. Every year there seems t be some little problem with the transactions though.

There have been two players that I took a flyer on due to this forum. Warner was one. I didn't draft him, but picked him up after week 1. Cannot remember how I did that season.

Other was Antonio Gates. (nothing like having a third tier one stud at wr in a mandatory te league)

Barry Sanders in 91.

Awesome pick. Though I was thwarted at season's end by a few people trading thier teams away for cash.

Kordell Stewart with the 12th pick in a 12 team serpentine. TD league. Corey Dillon with the 13th pick. The two accounted for 40+ TD and got me to the Super Bowl.

1997 I think.

Emmitt Smith. 1997. It was his worse year, during his prime. I had the 1st pick, too. Poopie!

Me too, 4th overall...the year he got a separated shoulder and I had Scott Mitchell as my backup QB and Herman Moore... the year those two went off for many TDs.

I think it is probably Christian Okoye around 1990. Im pretty sure it was the year Derrick Fenner scored like 15 touchdowns before Chris warren showed up.

The great thing back then was unless you bought Cliff Charpentiers big foldout, you were getting your information from the back of football cards.

1995

First round looked like this:

1.01 Steve Young

1.02 Troy Aikman

1.03 Emmitt Smith

1.04 Dan Marino

1.05 Drew Bledsoe

1.06 Jerry Rice

1.07 Marshall Faulk

1.08 Barry Sanders

ME Natrone Means

1.10 Chris Warren

They guy who took Warren followed it up with Brett Favre, Terrance Mathis and Eric Metcalf. He won the league.
