teachers are the one area where unions provide some value. while there are always stories of some teacher that has quit, they do a decent job of establsihing requirements and keeping the pay at a reasonable level. I want people to get paid enough to want to be teachers.

Her office is full of lazy dumb-asses who know there are no repercussions for not doing a quality job, and if anyone looks at them sideways they "grieve" it. In her case I think the union actually holds her back, from both earning power and advancement.

Eh. I don't really consider it "anti union." The state is dealing with a budget problem, partially caused by the unions bargaining. When I think of something as "anti" I think of it as having some level of malice. This just seems like the government dealing with a problem pragmatically without any particular malice towards the union.

Much like the housing bubble, Unions have created a "public sector" bubble. Your house really wasn't worth 500k, it was inflated. That teacher really isn't worth 70k with ridiculous benifits not seen anywhere else. That is inflated.

 

Well the Uninion bubble is bursting. The States cannot afford these inflated salaies/benefits. So they either have to tax more or cut out this Union bullcrap. I vote the second option.

Nothing to do with balancing the budget. It's all about union-busting because unions donate to mostly democrats and big business and fat cats donate to republicans. Both parties will represent where they get there funds from.

 

And, btw, in 2008 federal election, unions donated $440 million, mostly to Dems. Big business donated over $3 billion, mostly to GOP.

 

Stop being jealous or trying to bring the common worker down. So what if they make $5/hour more or get a descent retirement. The credits to businesses, oil, religion, banks, credit unions, dwarfs those funds.

 

And I hope nobody puts all unions in one bucket. I represent boilermakers. Try that job for 30 years and see how your body feels. The working man deserves a good wage, benefits, and retirement. Let the company post a $3 billion profit instead of $4B.
