Game of Thrones (no spoilers)

Recommended Posts

this show feels like a regular network series; the twists aren't exciting or surprising.

i used to have to listen carefully, not anymore.

the show is dragging and i believe has officially.....

Could be because they had the brilliant idea to start to really stray from the books.

I see this going the way of a less sucky Homeland Season Two where everyone thinks that the show is going is going to turn around and then at the end you realize that it's not and it is what it is now.

Although Homeland somehow became pretty good again in season four after two years in the weeds. Don't see that happen every day

why they didn't keep sticking to the books I don't know but they are starting to roon it. Hopefully they see this and start going back to the books next season ... but after what they have already done that might be tough.

I fear they went and killed the golden goose.

I still find it to be the best current show on television. The acting, wardrobe, scenery and cinematography is stunning. Compare that to the Walking Dead, for example.

Screw these books. I'm never going to read them. The show is entertaining as fock. I guess it's similar to these comic book movies that come out. I've never read comics. A bunch of fanboys start to complain how the movie wasn't enough like the detail in the comics. So what? Was the movie entertaining?

Last season wasn't some great prize by comparison. Until the Oberlyn and Mountain duel, until the fight at the Wall, which was amazing for a TV show, and the final episode when Tyrion goes 'naners and goes on a killing spree, Stannis ends the Wildling war, Hound vs Bork, etc, there was a lull in the middle of the season.

I started reading the book. Only on page 11 and it's really good.

I have not had time to watch the latest ep yet. My problem is the Littlefinger/Bolton thing. Everyone knows Cersei is looking for Sansa.

So Littlefinger writes to Roose Bolton and says "Hey I have Sansa, do you want to marry her to your Bastard?" He doesn't think Roose will tell Cersei that he has Sansa?

And Roose doesn't think when Cersei finds out that he married his Son to Sansa she will not send the King's army after him?

Then Littlefinger runs to Cercei and says "Roose has Sansa". Doesn't he think that she will find out how Sansa got to Winterfell? It seems so poorly thought out.

Is King's Landing so unprotected that Tommin can not raise a few dozen men to wipe out the sparrows?

I mean the boy just discovered sex. I would think he would recall his entire army if he had to to get his wife back.

Comparing GoT to Walking Dead on any level is just dumb. Walking Dead has absolutely horrid acting, and is generally just campy as fock.

The funny part is that books 4 and 5 aren't great prizes either. Despite Moz' b!tching, a slow down was coming if they adhered to the books at all, and the only way to avoid it would have been to veer from them even more.

I think a comparison can be warranted, based on popularity. The Walking Dead is the #1 show in all of TV, ratings wise, network and/or cable. It's also the biggest show on the most watched night of TV, Sundays. Game of Thrones runs when TWD is on hiatus, and then GOT becomes the biggest show on Sundays, cable and/or network.

I think Bolton feels that his deal to seize power in the North was with Tywin, who is now dead. He doesn't feel that Cersei is interested in backing him in any way. He's confessed to Ramsay that his hold on the North is tenuous. He feels that he will have a better chance of holding on to the North with Sansa's presence than with a slight possibility that Cersei sends troops his way to fight. Everybody seems to know Cersei is preoccupied with Maergery, maybe Bolton knows it too. Cersei hasn't been thinking about Tyrion nor Sansa before Littlefinger visited and not since then either. At this point, Cersei no longer has an army, so I guess it doesn't matter. But I don't think Bolton is an idiot, so he may have seen this playing out the same way Littlefinger did.

Littlefinger is leveraging, but since he seems to be offering help to the queen in regards to troops, he must believe that Cersei will overlook how Sansa ended up with the Bolton. Or Littlefinger will just say he was testing the Bolton's loyalty to the crown, and they failed. He's a sneaky sh!t.

No, I don't think Tommen can necessarily raise up some troops, as it's the Tyrells that are providing everything. Also, as Daario said, rulers are either butchers or meat. I don't think the folk of King's Landing would be pleased to see Tommen slaughter a bunch of holy people that are helping the poor to save his bride from a crime she actually committed. Once the many stop following the few...

a good way to end this season would be throwing Margery and Cersei in a cell together, naked and make Loras watch.

And people - in this thread, no less - keep saying don't rush him / let him write at his own pace so the quality isn't compromised.

But the longer he takes, the worse it gets (seems like an editing problem):

My problem is with the fat man, not the show/show writers. 15 years now since the ridic good book.

Not sure how I feel about the Dany-Tryion/Jorah meeting yet.

Other than that, I thought it was a fantastic episode

They are really NOT straying too far from the books. The only storyline that is not in the books is Dorne, and, like the whole Craster's keep storyline last year, it is easily the worst thing about this season. I approve of everything else, maybe other than really shortening and dulling Tyrion and Jorah's journey to Meereen.

I REALLY, REALLY like what they did in Winterfell. It reminds you who the the most "evil" character is. Joeffrey couldn't hold Ramsay's jockstrap when it comes to just pure evil. Having Sansa there rather than some random girl no body knows was a good move on the producers part.

You all have to lighten up, the show-runners really are doing a great job with this season and the series in general. Again, we have reached a slow point in the story, but there will be a few crazy scenes in the upcoming episodes.

I thought it was a good episode as well. I don't know that some of what they are doing makes much sense, particularly Littlefinger leaving Sansa with the Boltons, but I'm fine with most of what they are doing all in all.

I was a fan of Jaime and Bronn going out on the road together, but the Dorne stuff has been pretty bad. I still hope we get Jaime going to address the siege at RiverRun at some point. The Jaime/Blackfish stuff was great.

Probably good points but Littlefinger is always careful and that seems risky. You are right. Roose said that Kings landing would not send people north with winter coming. And the King does not seem to have much power.

Didn't exist in the books. I thought it was just pointless and really predictable and lame.

So far, their added storylines have not been good. However, I think when they have combined characters and storylines, it ends up being interesting.

The last two episodes of this season are called A Dance with Dragons and Winter. That alone has me excited. I read somewhere that we will see more of the White Walkers and the Iron Islands before the end of the season.

Never read the books and probably won't. Show is good. With any episode in any show there will always be a slow down so it doesn't bother me.

George RR Martin not writing any episodes for next season. Also cancelled comic con appearance and several interviews because he said he would like to finish WOW before next season...

I think he should forego eating and sleeping until finished, as well.

I think it will be released either before Christmas or about a month before next season. Like I said previously, as long as he gets it out before next season, everything will be just fine and dandy.

There are 2 days I am looking forward to in the future, and only two days; When the WOW release date is announced, and the actual date itself. I am really going to take off of work for a few days after it's released.

I can't remember when they go into production, but I think it's before Christmas, and they will definitely need rough drafts of scripts before then, too, I would imagine. That's why I hoping some of the omissions from this season are being pushed to next. They need all the breathing room they can get.

I guess this is what happens when Game of Thrones and Walking Dead collide.

On the surface, it was one of the better episodes this season... but I can't help but be a little disappointed that they had to manufacture a battle, just to keep this season interesting. And I guess us book readers finally got the answer to our question about one particular storyline being truly dead.

The 2 show creators explained in the 7 minute episode follow-up:

Hardhome was mentioned in the books... that something very bad happened there. But readers did not get a first hand experience or detail. So this worked as new to all. It was not a battle; it was a slaughter. All of it except for the Night King seeing an actual and unknown threat (Valyrian Steel).

Don't know how one could be disappointed in the action; the books could have been stronger with it.

I'm glad we finally got some Cat of the Canals (Arya missions outside of the temple).

And since we're essentially past most of the published work:

There are a few others who have Valyrian Steel... Tywin melted down Ned Stark's over-sized sword and re-forged it into 2 swords. He gave them to Jamie. One was for Joffrey but he instead gave that one to Brienne.

:ninja:

Terribly misleading language for non-readers. Craster's storyline was most definitely in the books and most on-screen happened. They just added extra bits and pieces to the show which were so insignificant that its not worth complaining about.

Sooo much foreshadowing and 4th Wall shite with Sam and Ollie.

Danerys and Tyrion on point.

I think we all know one way that Cersei might get out of her predicament. The work continues...

Cersei drank from the focking ground.

Sansa finally knows the truth.

That focking battle. And we're about to see some Stannis / Bolton shite go down.

What is Edd may never die!

WUN WUN!
