posty 2,700 Posted June 21, 2011 Also the recaps of each episode done by Entertainment Weekly are both informative and hilarious. Definitely worth a read if you are only watching the show and not picking up the books. They don't give away any spoilers and help you understand who and what is happening in the event that you are confused. This one is a good one as well for ones that have read the book OR haven't... http://winter-is-coming.net/
kutulu 1,676 Posted June 22, 2011 The imp has a lot of good lines, but I'm liking Jaimie more and more. Yeah, he banged his own sister, but that wasn't as frowned upon back then...at least according to what I've heard so far on the show. And yeah, he pushed the now cripple kid out the castle window, but he did it for love. Also, he was apparently the only one with the balls to kill the crazy King when some killing needed to be done. He loves his family going as far as to hook up his midget bro with a girlfriend/whoore..not his fault pops rained on that parade by setting her up for the royal gangbang. And he has a cool nickname, KingSLAYER!!! And then he tells the kids mother, point blank, that he pushed her rugrat out the window.
TD Ryan2 316 Posted June 22, 2011 OK, just started reading GOT Book 1. DELICIOUS. 1. The book is great - writing style, pace, etc - just perfect. 2. The Show did a great job with that first scene (White Walkers - or "Others" in the book). 3. The Book Details - the details are rich, example: the Dire Wolf in the beginning has died swallowing a great-antlered stag - tasty symbolism is abundant throughout. The Show didn't ruin the books at all for me. I'm craving more now that the season 1 is over and the books are a perfect solution; instead of re-watching, I'm reading and taking in every detail and it's very easy to create the mental-picture after seeing the show. parrot 789 Posted June 22, 2011 2. The Show did a great job with that first scene (White Walkers - or "Others" in the book). One small quibble I had with how the show portrayed that scene was; how did the remaining member of the Night's Watch get away? In the book he hides in a tree until the White Walkers go away. In the show a White Walker tosses the other guy's head at him from a very near distance, AS HE'S FOCKING KNEELING, then, fade to black. The next time we see him, he's being chased down for desertion? TD Ryan2 316 Posted June 22, 2011 So what is your plan after you finish book one? Are you going to read book two or wait until season two has completed its run on HBO? I'll keep reading - I don't mind if I get ahead of the tv show - I can still enjoy it all. As it is now, I miss a lot of the details/subtelty of the show b/c I don't know much about it. After reading teh books, I'm sure I'll pick up on it all a lot easier and nod in approval at the attention to detail.

The next time we see him, he's being chased down for desertion? not a big deal IMO. The guy got away in the book and show. Ned cut the head off a deserter in the book and the show. "What did you think Bran?" "Could he be both scared and brave" "The only time any man can be brave is when he's scared" - Great stuff like that is abundant. parrot 789 Posted June 22, 2011 "What did you think Bran?" "Could he be both scared and brave" "The only time any man can be brave is when he's scared" - Great stuff like that is abundant. I posted this at ehrm... another site after watching the pilot. Very good all in all, but I do have a couple of book snob quibbles. I thought they left out two of the better lines from early in the book; after the beheading Bran asks Ned something like "Can a man still be brave even when he is afraid?" and Ned replies "That's the only time a man can be brave." and when Tyrion and Jon are talking and Tyrion tells Jon "All dwarves are bastards, but not all bastards need be dwarves" or something to that effect. I was also surprised they didn't hit on Ned's promise to Lyanna when Ned and Robert were in the crypt. Maybe they figured there was enough going on without throwing a big mystery in there on top of everything.
The Moz 69 Posted June 23, 2011 Just finished it - season 1 the midget makes the entire show! Definitley never saw a certain person dying in the 2nd to last episode. Lots of things I don't expect. The Dragon chick is pretty hot
The Moz 69 Posted June 23, 2011 Granted the book series isn't even over yet - still 3more books. But I think it ends with the Dragon lady on the throne - as the dragons would be the only ones that can kill the white walkers easily. Could see her hooking up with Snow at the end. I think those end up as the 2 biggest characters. Hope the Midget doesn't die for a while -
TD Ryan2 316 Posted June 23, 2011 at this point, I can only imagine the depth/breadth of this whole series of books - thousands and thousands of pages (and possibly decades/generations) later, when the fictional folk of Westeros talk nostalgically about <insert dead character> it will mean something considerable to us readers - the old lords of the north, the old kings who are now gone, we will have "known" them. Same with the stories/adventures/events of these early characters. I imagine the "story" of Tyrion escaping the Eyrie will become legendary in Westeros - it could/should take on an almost mythical/unbelievable tavern-tale quality for the fictional folk of the Realm- and a 1,000 pages and years later when those fictional folk talk, remember, or speculate about it, the reader will "know" the truth as we were "there" for it. between the TV Series, now the books, the recent release of Breaking Bad Season 3 and Season 4's airing soon - TD's got too much to do - also Inception just arrived on HBO. I'm in a mini-entertainment nirvana here!
posty 2,700 Posted June 23, 2011 http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/06/23/game-of-thrones-casting/ HBO’s Game of Thrones has made its first casting hire for season 2: Natalie Dormer, who memorably played the seductive and doomed Anne Boleyn on Showtime’s The Tudors, has been added to the fantasy drama’s regular cast. Dormer will play Margaery Tyrell, a (minor spoiler alert) beautiful and shrewd young woman from the influential House Tyrell. She’s pledged to marry the late King Robert’s brother, Renly Baratheon, as part of House Tyrell’s support for his bid to seize the Iron Throne from King Joffrey. ArnieBragg 1 Posted February 3, 2012 Just finished book 5. Ever heard of Martin's Dunk & Egg Tales? Good stuff. Your local library probably has the collection of books that they appear in. The DUNK AND EGG TALES are a series of short novels written by George R. R. Martin, also known as "Tales of the Seven Kingdoms." These tales take place roughly 90-100 years before the events of A Game of Thrones, and follow a young hedge knight named Dunk and his squire, Egg.

Quickolas1 80 Posted February 4, 2012 Just finished book 5. In the middle of 5. Just now seeing some familiar faces again, kinda like the Saw movies (and what's happened to some of the characters is kinda like the Saw movies too!!) At least once finished, it'll be time to watch season 2...but then begins the waiting game...
frank 2,306 Posted February 4, 2012 I had not heard of those. I will check it out. A friend of mine turned me on to the books last year. I read all five in the last 7 months. If you haven't already, check out The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. That is my favorite series. Ever heard of Martin's Dunk & Egg Tales? Good stuff. I'm not familiar with her work, but I wouldn't call the actress who plays Cersei extraordinarily beautiful either and she has really nailed the role. I guess we better give both Stan and Marge a chance.

southcarolina 166 Posted March 25, 2012 Cant wait for this to restart. Best show on TV IMO. Heres a question: How old would your children have to be before you let them watch this show? For me im not so much worried about the language, but the sex and nudity is a bit much for my oldest (15 years old) Which is a shame, because he would LOVE this show.
