Phurfur 70 Posted December 14, 2012 Yes, they did. Just like the ones in the mall shooting two days ago. And the movie theater a couple months back. And the one that will surely happen next week, or next month. But this, like all the others, won't change a damn thing, because we are too damn stupid. Correct, we continue to blame the gun and not society!

John Fox 5 Posted December 14, 2012 The gunman, identified as Ryan Lanza, 24, was also found dead at the scene, a federal law enforcement official said. Lanza is the son of a kindergarten teacher at the school, reported WNBC's Jonathan Dienst. One of his parents was later found dead at a home in New Jersey. cbfalcon 827 Posted December 14, 2012 I think I need some time with this one, this has cut me to a dark place, I just want to go home and hug my kids right now, I cannot remember the last time I felt so miserable. how much more? Yeah, I lean anti-gun and work with a die hard gun guy. We almost started the debate at lunch, but then I thought "Fucck. I don't even want to talk about it." and now I'm thinking about ditching work early to go pick up my daughter from daycare. I'm nauseous thinking about the fact that she isn't even safe in daycare. Essentially the only time I feel like she is safe is when I am holding her. It makes me want to quit everything and just hold her for the next 16 years. Frozenbeernuts 2,292 Posted December 14, 2012 Protect yourself with a focking shotgun, or a deer rifle. You can protect your home an hunt with those, but they are harder to sneak into a focking multiplex or a school. It is time for a full ban on all assault weapons and handguns. Ok I can understand that argument. You did not specify all guns, like some have proposed, or a ban on certain guns. There are people who break into houses without guns all the time. KSB2424 3,153 Posted December 14, 2012 You do know that assault weapons are MUCH less powerful than a hunting rifle....right? Handguns don't even compare to either. Up close...there is nothing more devistating than a shotgun. But please....continue on with your uninformed, knee-jerk, emotional rhetoric. But with a shotgun or a rifle you can only shoot a couple to a few bullets, stop, reload, and start all over. That takes time. Time where another person can stop the killer. And those are large items where its difficult to conceal. Semi Auto and handguns you can load up and blast off rounds after rounds with little stopping and easy to conceal. If this dude had a shotgun at least half if not more of the kids that died would be alive. He simply wouldn't of had the time to do as much damage as he did. Or would've been spotted earlier. I'm for the 2nd Amendment, but common sense has to prevail. Our founding fathers lived in a time when everybody had focking muskets and shat for crying out loud. We are never going to get rid of violence, and crazy people, but we can try to mitigate the "mass" murder as best we can. But anyway....I got caught in the gun control discussion vortex just now...I'm out because you are right...I'll save it for another day.

windycityguy 1 Posted December 14, 2012 I won't start on the gun control issue. Those that are against gun control will argue to the end of time so it's pointless. I would abolish them all myself. Regardless there needs to be more controls. However. You will never be able to keep this from happening at a mall or a movie theatre etc. This should never be able to occur at a school. College maybe other than that no one should be able to walk into a school so heavily armed. Hell no one that shouldn't be there should be able to get in. I used to deliver donuts 7 years ago part time. We had several school accounts. I could walk into every school any time after 5am with a large box on a cart big enough to hold 4 large automatic weapons, with out as much as hello. 5 or 6 years after columbine and I am thinking I could walk sit in a closet and wait for school to start or place a bomb any where I wanted. It's time to change this NOW! There is no reason planes should be safer then our schools. They don't have to have metal detectors but there needs to be more controls on entering these schools. Yes I know schools and tax payers can't afford it. That doesn't matter it needs to be addressed now. You want to keep your guns? Pay higher taxes to keep kids safe. I am a fairly new father of a 2.5 year old girl. I can't begin to explain the emotions I have at this moment.

Bishop82 61 Posted December 14, 2012 I also just became a father recently (2.5 month old girl) and this story is also making me sick to my stomach. I can't even imagine what I would do if I ever got a phone call from a school and there was a shooting. Can we atleast wait until the bodies are cold before we turn this into a stupid gun debate. They'll kill defenseless people, but just as soon as somebody gets there who can defend those who are defenseless, the cowards decide to eat a bullet. KSB2424 3,153 Posted December 14, 2012 He used two handguns. Three guns were found at the scene, CNN's Susan Candiotti reports. According to a law enforcement source, the third weapon found on the scene was a .223 Bushmaster. The other weapons, previously reported, are a Glock, and a Sig-Sauer. No word on the models of Glock or Sig-Sauer. Which is a type of AR-15 semi auto rifle if I'm not mistaken.

I could swear that the shotgun my buddy had (legally bought) had a 7 shell capacity plus the one in the chamber. I've shot it multiple times out camping back in our 20s. That would do alot more damage than a revolver or say any 'legal' semi auto handgun.
SUXBNME 1,583 Posted December 14, 2012 Which is a type of AR-15 semi auto rifle if I'm not mistaken. wiffleball 4,793 Posted December 14, 2012 Really have to agree with Windy. Probably one of the best posts so far. No, I too do not propose metal detectors everywhere, but when you juxtapose the TSA vs. what's gone down in our schools, it's ridiculous beyond belief. - And that's just one of probably hundreds, thousands of examples of where, if we had the will, we'd certainly find the way to pay for better (not perfect) school security. Hell, what we've spent building schools in Iraq and Afghany would probably cover the cost of a state/federal matching funds program. In short, "Homeland Security" should begin at home. And those efforts should certainly be geared first and foremost toward our most vulnerable. Will it fix everything? No. Rememeber, Columbine had a (POS coward) security guard. However, politically, ethically, logically, I don't see how even the biggest doofus politician would put up any kind of a fight against something like this. I'm not talking about turning every school into a fortress, just some basic measures - like many workplaces already have. Right now, I just can't imagine being the parent of any of the kids affected - alive or dead. Even the 'lucky' ones are going to be seriously messed up. They've had their innocence, youth and security robbed from them. May God give strength and comfort to the parents of all the children affected by this vile act. I couldn't imagine having to have the kinds of conversations, answer the kinds of questions, calm the terrors, the fears, the bad dreams that these poor parents are going to face in the days and months to come.
