The New England Patriots- Empire of the NFL

Recommended Posts

Well, there WAS that Cleveland stint though which didnt work out so genuisely..... ;)

True. But the hallmark of greatness is learning from one's mistakes, not never making any in the first place.

How do you judge Belichick as the HC of CLE when Modell was selling the team?

CLE won 11 games and a playoff game under Belichick.

They started out 3-1 the following season and then Modell announced the sale and move of the team - and it all collapsed.

I don't understand the CLE hate for Belichick, shouldn't it be directed at Modell?

And don't forget Belichick's role as the Def. Coordinator with the Giants and Lawrence Taylor - facing those Great 49ers and Bills teams - there used to be a debate about Parcells and Belichick and it's pretty clear now that Belichick was carrying Parcells more than Parcells carrying Bellichick.

In the end (I posted this before), when you read the list of names/teams that makeup the immortals of the NFL:

Lombardi

Stauback/Landry

Shula / Dolphins

Bradshaw / Steel Curtain

Montana / Rice / Walsh

Aikman/Smith/Irvin

Brady / Belichick

Brady and Belichick are appropriately included on that list - they have it all: titles, longevity, records, dominance - Their competitors have risen and fallen: NYJ, PIT, IND, SD, DEN, BAL, PHI, NYG - but none have maintained such a lengthy period of dominance. As the competition waxes and wanes, NE is consistently at the top.

Brady goes down as one of the greatest QBs to ever play.

Belichick goes down as one of the greatest coaches to ever coach.

And Kraft... if you don't have a great owner to finish off the triumverate, it won't work - I used to think you needed a QB/RB/WR to win in the NFL - today you need a QB/HC/Owner.

Since Tom met Gazelle, he stopped being the hardest working QB in the league and rested on his laurels. She ruined him and turned him into a Hollywood pansy.

if he had stayed single for life, like most of the people that post here, who knows how many Super Bowls they'd have won

LOL... woman, the original sin!!!

To do what NE has done in the modern era of parity since 01 1/2 the seasons they have at least gone to the AFC title game. And still people doubt the Genius

No title in 9 years though.

Sure, they have remained up there...in a weak division in a conference that has not seen many rise at all. Its been Pitt, Balt, or NE for quite some time now (at least once Peyton was hurt and out of Indy).

Now Denver is in the mix and maybe Cincinnati will make the jump and/or Indy again.

Cheating is the best the Patriots haters can come up with?

How many Superbowls have the Eagles been in or won?

Same as the post-Spygate Pats. :dunno:

Id argue how immortal every one of those combos are but whatever. Joe Gibbs and his success with multiple players and teams is more impressive than being handed a HOF team / silver platter deal that some of these guys got. Thats for another day. As for NE, yeah they've been consistent and Ill give them that. Part(not ALL) of their success has to be given to the fact that they play in one of the most chicken sh!t divisions ever where the other three teams NEVER seem to improve. The Bills, Jets and Phins are quite a joke, IMO. So, NE gets a division title & mostly homefield every playoffs. Hey - it is what it is and they earn it by playing well too but its an easier path than most teams have to take each year.

They almost start the season 5-1 due to the "in the bag" games they get.

But, but - They are consistent and Wiliam & Thomas deserve to be mentioned as some of the greatest to play. I guess ;)

I fear the Patriots are in for a long day Sunday. I just don't see who will cover J Thomas. Jamie Collins? Dude is a rookie.

The Patriots have won 78% of their division games over the last ten years and 75% of their non division games.

From 2002-2012, AFC East teams had 237 wins against teams outside their division, which ties them for the most among all divisions.

The AFC East is the only division in football where every team has won at least 6 games the last three years.

The Jets played in two of the last four AFC Championship games.

Thanks parrot,

I just put this thread together:

http://www.fftodayforums.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=430746

I didn't really know whether it is a weak division or not, so I looked for myself.

It's a mixed bag - like most division - but you really can't make the claim that it's been a horrible division since NE started winning.

\I am going to past your post/stats/info into the thread.

thx.

I hope they are right, I grabbed some of them off another site. Near as I can tell they are correct though. Like you say, it's been a mixed bag, and it has been pretty bad at times, but so has pretty much every division.

Yesterdays loss was all on Brady. If he makes that pass to a wide open Edelman in the first quarter, it's a different game. But the fact is he can't make those throws anymore..... It wasn't just that throw, at least a half dozen others were missed that Brady would have made 3 years ago.....

New England had a great run with Brady, A 15 year dynasty, but sadly it's over now.

.....and another thing, let's finally put this Brady vs Manning thing to rest. Yesterday Manning showed us why he's the best QB this league has ever.. He made the Patriots look ordinary.

....also, I think Peyton deserved a little more than just a quick "good game" from Brady.....but that's the difference between the two. Peyton is a gentleman and Brady is a spoiled little baby.

This is a dumb post. What do you expect Brady to say? You want him to spend 15 minutes gushing about how great Manning is? He just lost an elimination game, based in part on his own play. He acknowledged Peyton's play and that's perfectly fine.

No, we just have to listen to Richard Sherman for two weeks.

But you can't blame the Broncos for that . . .

world: the best offense is a good defense

bellicheat: F the world, were scoring 50ppg beyotch, come get some

worked wonders while it lasted, I'd say those days are however gone... old pats score 49 and don't GAF about defense, New pats muster 21 and get beat... suddenly somehow we talk as if they play D in New England. sorry, not buying it.

the number one problem the planet used to have, was concocting a way to out score them, and that problem appears to have fixed itself... it's either the no care defense philosophy has caught up to them, super Brady isn't as sharp anymore (anyone see those overthrows against DEN.. was that Cutler in disguise?!?!) or it's simple, no handycam no trophy, do not pass go, do not collect the MVP Cadillac...

regardless IDGAF as I'm sick of the pats mopping us up, I'm glad the empire is crumbling, maybe we can breech 8-8 finally :(

Right - how the HELL did they cover that convoy of Hall of Famers?

As for Brady? Is it fair to say hes been a choker the last 10 seasons? I mean.... we labeled Manning a choke with about as long of an unsuccessful run. Right?

Hmmm.....

to answer your question, yes.

Has he had the weapons of some QBs? No, but he still had the chance to win if he played better.

He has missed a lot of throws and that has potentially cost them at least 1 more Super Bowl if not 2.

Better pass to Welker on the one people say he dropped, they win that Super Bowl.

Do they get to the SB without him? No, but that doesn't mean he didn't choke when it comes down to it.

It's all Gazelle's fault for taking his manhood and his desire to be the best

See what I mean? :(
