I never was without booze and was never cut off. I went last year with the family. Ive done 1 and would never do it again.....way too many people (to the point where we didnt even get in the pool bc it was always too crowded), didnt like the few hours you got to spend on stops...jut not my thing. And this cruise we went on was completely paid for......so not like i was out anything......still sucked.

Why the fock would I want to do that? Depends on the ship. Some have better food than others and others are floating cities. The one that I was on had so many bars and attractions that I did not get to all of them in a week. I have only been on 2 in my life (about 15 years apart) and they were both very good vacations. Of course, my next vacation is to a destination.
BiPolarBear 485 Posted July 14, 2014 perfect for fat and lazy people ...Also people who don't really have any fine dining experience. A guy like Bunny will be hard to impress after a lifetime in New Orleans. You get some hick from Kansas that is a regular at Golden Coral, and they are wowed. The biggest let down for me is that when you finally get to a destination, you are only on shore for a very short time. I did a snorkel excursion that was less than spectacular in Cozumel. After that, I walked through a mall for 45 minutes and headed back to the ship. That was it.

BunnysBastatrds 2,443 Posted July 14, 2014 Never been on one but only heard good things UNTIL you said drink limit and cut off. I don't do "cut off" They offer a drink card. It's $50.00 a day plus gratuity. Basically you pay $400.00 per and get a max total of fifteen drinks per 24 hours. Once you hit your limit, you couldn't get another on your card. I drank a lot of beer. The beers were 16oz's so it made sense to get the package. The wifey got it too as she drank about ten fruity/margirita drinks in a day. I used the the remaning drinks left on her card but she had to order. One night she went back to the room so I was basically done for the day. We snuck on two fifths using the bladder bags you told me about. Great tip. You would have had a better experience if you PM'd me and I could have told you how to take the booze on board. Not to mention the small rooms and occasional Noro Virus. Fly to an island. Stay at a nice hotel. Don't go on a cruise. Yup. Food was average at best. The best entertainement we had was at the comedy club. The broadway like shows were meh. The pool was small as someone said above. Still got in it. The room wasn't as bad as I thought. Didn't have a balcony but the location was good. Flying to an island is what we've always done but the wifey wanted to give it a shot. Halfway through the cruise we were both saying that we were having fun but no more cruises.

He was going on and on about how great his steak was. We went to Cozumel. Belize, and Roaton. We got off the boat at 8:00 and had to be back on by 3:00 or 4:00. Went to Mr. Sanchos in Cozumel. Basically a resort with all inclusive booze and food. Great time if you ever go back. Belize was meh. Our snorkel trip got canceled because the boat had a payment with the excursion company. Fawkers. We ended up just walking around the town and getting drunk on Belkins at a restaurant. Roaton was awesome. The snorkeling there was incredible. Could have spent the whole day there but we had to be on the boat by 3:00.

Patriotsfatboy1 1,432 Posted July 14, 2014 We snuck on two fifths using the bladder bags you told me about. Great tip. I just wasn't ever in the mood for what we brought. Ended up bringing half of that home. What cruise line? Some of them focus on catering to the cheap masses and the food will not be as good. Some will be a little more high end. Carnival is cheaper than Royal Caribbean. Some of the shore dockings are too short. Remember, the ship is not really making their money on those, so they don't want to take up too much time there. They want you at their bars, their restaurants and their casinos. I could not be drinking 15 beers a day. I would want to have a few mixed drinks to get a good buzz on and then mix in some beer. If you brought on booze, why would you have brought on something that you were not going to end up drinking? I brought some booze home, but it was because I brought a ton of vodka and that was pretty much all I was drinking. I think that a cruise is a good trip every once in a while, but I would not want to do them too often. You can still have a really good time, though.
jerryskids 6,800 Posted July 14, 2014 My in laws are cruise maniacs. It's perfect for them because she likes to visit different places, and he likes to have "his" space (vs going to different hotels each night. They just did an Amazon one which sounded interesting if you are into nature. And I'll prolly do Alaska some day. But I'm fine if I never do any others. IGotWorms 4,058 Posted July 14, 2014 Never done one, probably never will. Every now and then I think well maybe it'd be a good cheap vacation, but it sounds like they get $$$ out if you any way they can. If I'm paying decent money for a vacation then I want a nice room, good restaurants, variety, and I don't want to be surrounded by stupid fatties 24/7. DankNuggs 305 Posted July 14, 2014 I wasn't overly impressed. Went on one 3-4 years ago, nice brand new boat. Buffet was gross, like a cattle herd. Food very mediocre. Pool overcrowded... I did get extremely drunk the entire time and some friends smuggled some green onboard which was nice. I made a few hundred a bunch of nights fleecing morons in poker, recouped a decent chunk of the cost of the trip back.
DankNuggs 305 Posted July 14, 2014 I was really drunk and cracking jokes about this guy wearing a pink shirt and had sunglasses backwards on his head at the poker table, I was pretty ruthless as the table was getting a good laugh. We ran into him and his wife or gf at he comedy show the next night and it turns out my wife grew up with the girl. Was kind of awkward
BunnysBastatrds 2,443 Posted July 14, 2014 Going to Roatan in November......got any more details? Things we should do? We did the snorkeling in Maya Key. Basically an all day excursion. The snorkeling was incredible. The food was ok. They had a really nice beach and a pool. It's also a animal refuge. They have monkeys. big cats, parrots, and a few other cool animals. We didn't have time to go anywhere else on the island. Me and the wifey decided that Roatan is our next beach vacation. Didn't realize Honduras was such a beautiful place and there was so much to do. Can't wait to go back. A couple we had brunch with told us about this charter company that they fished and snorkeled with. Said the guy that owned it brought them fishing first. Said he caught a black fin tuna and a baracuda. Then he brought them snorkeling while he cleaned and cooked the fish on the boat while they snorkeled. Then brought them to his house, introduced his family, and a quick tour of the island. Can't remember the name of the company now but i'll post it tonight. Every review i'd seen or heard said their food was the best. Meh. Brunch was the best meals I had. And the pizza was pretty good. Other than that everything else was average. I like to drink beer. I did drink a few margiritas, tequila shots, and mai tais. But I usually stick to beer. Keeps my mental juices flowing.

Bier Meister 1,710 Posted July 15, 2014 have never taken a cruise and doubt we will for many of the reasons being discussed: - we hate crowds - we like exploring on our own - prefer having a "home base" and branching out - culture is somewhat important to us (include food and beverage into culture) - we do not want to be on the ship's schedule that being said, i am very interested in chartering a cat or small boat (4-8 rooms) for a week or so and sailing around. BunnysBastatrds 2,443 Posted July 15, 2014 Yeah but why not just buy more at regular price? Or would they not serve you period? It's basically 50 bucks a day per person with a 15 drink limit over a 24 hour period that resets every morning. Beers were 6.50 a pop without the Booz card. I would have spent what Mr. MIT if I had not done the Booz card? I made out quite nicely. Something I forgot to add though. If the wifey drank ten and had some left, she could still buy me some on her card. And the drinks aren't limited as to what you drink other than you cannot order a double. You can wait five minutes after you buy your previous drink and add them together in a bigger cup. And if you tip your bartender at the beginning of the trip, he/she will find ways to bypass the rules when they can. And you pay no cash for drinks. You can tip cash though. Which is good as you know it's going directly to them. The card charges you a 15% gratuity automatically. I saved a shitload of money. I figured my liquor would have been over a grand just for me.
