Ray Rice Elevator Video

Recommended Posts

Wow. He couldn't wait to get in the elevator to hit her a crack. Looks to me like it wasn't his first time. Came kinda natural. Wonder how he treated the co-eds he was banging at Rutgers. Does he get a statue too?

Those with a domestic violence charge already against them should beat Ray Rice's a$$ as well.

Now any of their 'baby mamas' can get whatever they want or they call the cops. 2nd offense brings the Ban Hammer for life. Those players will have to roll over to avoid losing their career.

What a dumbass.

She clearly didn;t like what he had to say, gave him a shot so he punches her, she gets pissed and comes at him, he drops her. If nothing else he is exceptionally stupid, full season ban, yeah, I think so....

What a d-bag. Can he get additionaly suspended for this? Or is it kind of a case-closed sort of thing once he got the 2 games?

Well obviously. But wasn't the reason that he was suspended for 2 games was for hitting her? Doesn't this do no more then confirm it?

I'd love to see Goodell's face the first time he watched it.

I don't know what was worse. The knockout or the casual dragging of the carcass.

Her feet just laying there in the door's path, him seeming only casually concerned that it might close on her

Yeah he should've gotten a much worse suspension. I'd say minimum six games, maybe more like the whole year

And  at what a frigging moron Roger Cossack is:

Double jeopardy means that you cannot be tried twice for the same crime by the same jurisdiction.

In the case of Ray Rice, it means that the Ravens running back cannot be put in jeopardy, a criminal prosecution, for punching his then fiancée.

Even if the prosecutor tried to use different charges it would not be allowed if the underlying facts are the same. So, double jeopardy does apply and Rice cannot be charged again in the case.

The NFL cannot increase Rice's punishment by claiming the league did not know the seriousness of what Rice did. First, who didn't know that Rice punched Palmer while in the elevator? Did anyone really think she fainted?

Second, the punishment has already been decided both in court and by the NFL and partially served by Rice.

If the NFL or the Ravens tried to increase the punishment by claiming they didn't know how what he did, they would lose in court.

If Rice's suspension isn't increased, there is NO way Gordon comes back this year. After the general public has seen this, it would be a PR nightmare for the NFL to toy with suspensions and not increase Rice's.The outcry based on pure emotion will be enough for the NFL to not decrease any suspensions. If legally they cannot increase Rice's suspension, Gordon is done for the year.

A fair point. What a corner they are painted into here

I understand prior rules and agreements but the fact that Josh Gordon is out for the season and Ray Rice is out for 2 games is a travesty.

Absolutely. The two clearly aren't related, but it makes the Gordon suspension seem absurd. Hopefully this plays into the I going NFLPA negotiations on that issue.

Rotoworld reporting that the NFL HAD NOT seen the video (hard to believe, willful blindness perhaps?) and can "re-open" the case against Rice.

I bet both Rice and his wife made statements to the league that are totally contradicted by the video. That may be the hook the NFL can use to jack up the suspension.

I don't know if the CBA says something about not revisiting suspensions, but double jeopardy sure as hell doesn't apply

She has to press charges. The only way the state can press charges is an extreme circumstance like if he had used weapons or if he would have caused her really serious bodily harm.

I don't thin DJ applies either, BUT I think Rice could easily get a court injunction for any additional suspension handed down by Goodell at this point based on the underlying principles. So I don't think his suspension THIS YEAR will be any more than the two games already handed down.

Looks like this isn't over quite yet. :nono:

http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/nfl/294303/report-nfl-could-re-open-case-vs-ray-rice

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello says the NFL had not seen the video of Ray Rice knocking out his then-fiancee in a New Jersey elevator when it suspended Rice two games for domestic violence.

A new video was leaked Monday that showed Rice and then-fiancee (now wife) Janay Palmer in a New Jersey hotel casino elevator. Rice throws a left hook to Palmer's face, knocking her out cold before dragging her limp body out of the elevator. Multiple media outlets have suggested that the NFL could re-open the case against Rice. He's eligible to return to the team on Friday, following the Ravens' Week 2 game on Thursday night. Commissioner Roger Goodell could hand down further discipline. Rice is lucky he isn't in jail.

How so?

Not saying it's right, but according to the league rules, he is serving his 2 game suspension which is his punishment. Story over. Time to move on.

FF, this is PURE speculation and opinion of Rotoworld. They have a very bad habit of intermixing fact with their opinion.

Personally, I fail to see or understand how the video changes anything. They know she was hit and knocked out before the video. Seeing the video does not change that fact. A suspension of 2 games was the precident set by previous instances. Once he felt the heat, Our Feerless Leader changed that precident going forward to be 6 games and then a year minimum. But previous instances had been two games. Seeing or not seeing the video does not change the facts as they were already known - namely, he hit her, knocked her out, and dragged her out of the elevator. NONE of which is changed by now seeing a video.

Agree. The NFL knew that she was knocked unconscious during the incident. It doesn't matter if it was from a stiff jab or a Mike Tyson uppercut. The NFL isn't going to come back and say "Well we didn't know he hit her THAT HARD!"

It does put the NFL in an uncomfortable PR situation. The can either play the we didn't see the video card. That is ridiculous considering the casino said they had handed over the video footage. They can say that the punishment fit the crime which doesn't add up. Damned either way.

All would be right in and world. I'm pretty sure a leaked Josh Gordon getting high video would show him laughing hysterically to late night slap chop infomercials.

I wouldn't be surprised if the NFLPA or someone close to them released this, to dial up pressure on the league to get a deal done to save face.

I guess it varies from state to state but typically if the witness doesn't cooperate you don't have much to go on.

I got this suspicion that the release of the video is coordinated due to the recent pressure. The fact that the NFL offices are saying they didn't see the video opens the door for potential revisit of the initial 2 game ban. Now Goodell have the right to dish out a far bigger punishment without any backlash.

Whoever owns Rice needs to be prepare for a season long absence.
