OldMaid 1,838 Posted December 12, 2014 Every year my BF and his sister go back to Pittsburgh for either Thanksgiving or Christmas. Usually, they try to alternate holidays every year; Thanksgiving one year and Christmas the next. (I stay home, because we have a sick pet that has a complicated medication routine.) Somehow they ended up doing Christmas the last two years in a row... so my BF had mentioned that he wanted to go for Thanksgiving this year; because not only does he end up missing X-Mas with me, but my birthday, as well. Of course, she wanted to go for Chistmas, and booked the tickets without asking... so, he's going to be gone AGAIN for X-Mas and my birthday. And I suspect she did it on purpose... but that's a whole 'nother story. So, I called the airline and upgraded his ticket to first class and left her in coach. Mean? Maybe... but I feel better. penultimatestraw 473 Posted December 12, 2014 Passive aggressive, for sure. And silly - do adults without children really care about holidays?
penultimatestraw 473 Posted December 12, 2014 Seems passive aggressive. Have you considered an adult conversation? Right. Let it ride this year, but make it clear the BF will be spending x-mas and b-day in LA the next couple years.
OldMaid 1,838 Posted December 12, 2014 Seems passive aggressive. Have you considered an adult conversation? Yeah... it is... but considering she knew his wishes NOT to go at Christmas this year and she did it anyway.
OldMaid 1,838 Posted December 12, 2014 Passive aggressive, for sure. And silly - do adults without children really care about holidays? No, obviously it's not as big a deal as it would be if we had kids, but we still like to celebrate together.
mobb_deep 917 Posted December 12, 2014 Seems passive aggressive. Have you considered an adult conversation? They have a pet with a medical condition. Show some focking empathy.
penultimatestraw 473 Posted December 12, 2014 Yeah... it is... but considering she knew his wishes NOT to go at Christmas this year and she did it anyway. So...either she made a mistake or intentionally ignored his wishes. Rather than elevate the level of passive aggression, why don't you or he ask her why she did so and explain your concerns? Love it The only problem with your strategy is that the second he realizes that he's in first class and sis is not, he's gonna upgrade her to first class using your CC. Love the idea, though, you crazy b1tch
SUXBNME 1,337 Posted December 12, 2014 No, obviously it's not as big a deal as it would be if we had kids, but we still like to celebrate together. YOU would like to celebrate together...Him? Mebbe not so much Writings on the wall
IGotWorms 3,315 Posted December 12, 2014 I'd say stupidly passive-aggressive more than mean. What will it accomplish for you? Nothing but further antagonizing his sister. The smarter play would've been: 1) get your BF to say "well sorry I'm going for Thanksgiving instead." I mean do they absolutely *have* to go together? Why couldn't he do Thanksgiving and her Xmas for one year? or 2) you go with them and find someone to watch your pet. I'm sure you have reasons why you don't do this but do you really value your pet more than your BF? If so that's a whole 'nother issue.

jerryskids 5,206 Posted December 12, 2014 I'm also confused about the pet with the "complicated medical condition" which seems to have been going on for at least 3 years, impacting OldMaid's ability to travel over the holidays. What kind of pet is this that can continue to live for so many years with a chronic condition?

OldMaid 1,838 Posted December 12, 2014 So...either she made a mistake or intentionally ignored his wishes. Rather than elevate the level of passive aggression, why don't you or he ask her why she did so and explain your concerns? Without getting into too much detail... His sister is a strange one... plus, she's a spoiled brat, and it's partially his fault. There is almost a 20yr age gap between them, so he's been especially overprotective of her and he's gone out of his way to spoil her. We were over at her place recently, and it dawned on me, that almost everything she has, we have either bought or given her. And it's not like she can't afford to buy stuff for herself. She has a very decent job. But she's always asking for things, or our old stuff when we buy something new. I've also never seen or heard of her dating anyone since we've been together. So... yeah... I usually don't have much to say to her because she's just focking wierd. And the BF always lets her have her way. I can ask him to talk to her, but I'm doubt anything would change. Anyhoo... I'm mostly venting, and it usually doesn't bother me much... but I've had a couple of glasses of wine... and here we are.

What kind of pet is this that can continue to live for so many years with a chronic condition? One of our cats has IBD that has now morphed into small cell lymphoma. She gets various medications/herbal remedies throughout the day, and weekly B12 injections. She probably has only a couple of years left.

Bier Meister 1,514 Posted December 12, 2014 then yeah, it was mean. whether or not it was justified is another discussion. does BF want to travel alone (even in 1st class)? is it only sis that deserves your ire? does bf own any of it? all three of you had/have choices in how it all plays out. emotional drive bys are not going to resolve what ails you. naomi 343 Posted December 12, 2014 I'd be more dissapointed about him not taking initiative to right the situation. That's where the buck has to stop. It's not a practical issue right? Matter of the tickets being bought and non-refundable. It's about what BF really wants to do. She can be a selfish weirdo and that won't affect you, it's what your BF does in response that affects you.
