Mike Honcho 5,543 Posted August 3, 2016 Man I'm shocked Gallo was not part of this deal too - or any other deal for that matter. I would have much rather given him up than Ortiz - that kid is going to be really good. But it is good to know we still have Gallo and Profar in the bank for ammo to make future trades in the offseason or next year.... Brinson is a phenomenal defensive CF - but his bat could use some work. He is a tall, lanky kid at about 6'3" and can run like a deer. He was our future in center before this. From what I have read really like Brinson, ceiling is being put at potential All-star. Ortiz has MLB starter potential, around #3 starter now. So hard to project young pitchers though. Seems after years of Melvin Big Bat philosphy, i'm still trying to figure out Sterns long range plans. Everything I've read has both teams landed in the Trade winner columns, which is they way you want it. Nobody got hosed or has hard feelings...cept Cleveland, apparently thier fans were trolling Lucroy for turnning them down and he's going to be sorry when they win the series. Good luck &

CantTouchThis 23 Posted August 4, 2016 JD Martinez makes his DL return as a pinch hitter to lead off the 8th in a 1-1 game against Chris Sale. First pitch: 434' I missed watching it live, but that was one of those moments that I really wish I was there or at least watched it live. Crazy. First major league pitch seen in over 6 weeks, against the best pitcher in the AL, in the 8th inning of a 1-1 game. Dude absolutely crushed it.

Cruzer 1,996 Posted August 8, 2016 Even though we pulled off a crushing, road series defeat to the Stros this weekend - things are still not right with my Rangers.. We are giving up walks like Halloween candy, we have LOBs out the ass and we are barely averaging 3 runs a game... Lucroy and Beltran have been outstanding though - thank Gawd for them. The way he treated your team leading up to and during his suspension I wouldn't do it
Hardcore troubadour 16,032 Posted August 8, 2016 Do you agree with this ? Retiring his number. The way he treated your team leading up to and during his suspension I wouldn't do it I hate him, always have. He was great in 09, but I place a lot of the blame for 04 on him (mostly Torre, he gets a pass). I'm sure retiring his number was part of the deal for him going away peacefully. The retired numbers are out of control, Bill Martin, who I loved, was the start of this nonsense. Winfield ect. Mattingly is the only one who deserves it without a ring. shotsup 836 Posted August 8, 2016 It is crazy. I think number 2 should the last retired number for a long time. If 13 was part of the deal then whatever.
posty 2,849 Posted August 9, 2016 Report: Prince Fielder to retire http://m.mlb.com/news/article/194550274/neck-surgery-to-end-prince-fielders-career/ A second neck surgery in two years will force the end of Prince Fielder's playing career, sources told MLB.com on Tuesday. The Rangers will hold a news conference on Wednesday at Globe Life Park to announce that the slugger's 12-year big league career is finished. The Rangers have not commented on or confirmed the news. Fielder, 32, had surgery for a C4/C5 herniation in his neck on July 29, ending his season. He also underwent a similar procedure in 2014. He is medically disabled and doctors will not clear him to play, sources told MLB Network Insider Ken Rosenthal. The six-time All-Star is a career .283/.382/.506 hitter with 319 home runs and 1,028 RBIs with the Brewers, Tigers and Rangers. His father, Cecil Fielder, who played from 1985-88 and 1990-98, also hit 319 big league homers. He is owed $20 million annually through 2020. It is not known if Texas has insurance on Fielder's contract, according to Rosenthal's reporting.

Cruzer 1,996 Posted August 9, 2016 He is owed $20 million annually through 2020. It is not known if Texas has insurance on Fielder's contract, according to Rosenthal's reporting. Prince is owed about $24m per year thru 2020.. Texas will be on the hook for $9m per year, Detroit $6m and the remaining $9m coming from insurance... I feel bad for Prince, but his life is going to be pretty damn good still... The silver lining to all of this is that it frees up much needed $$ for us to try and resign Desmond. That's tough luck, in Milwaukee at least, he always looked like he was just happy to be out there, having fun playing baseball and a real easy guy to root for. Hope it all works out for him.
