No earthquakes. No hurricanes. Damn neear impossible to get bit by a poisonous snake. No alligators. No banjos. Almost impossible to be murdered in a city besides Detroit ,Benton harbor,Flint, or Lansing. Which leaves a lot of places. No sharks.

Did I mention no hurricanes? That's the one I like.

I'll take the hurricanes over Detroit, the god awful winters and the screwed up State government. But I am happy you and Pat love the place!

Terrible weather 10 months out of the year. No mountains to speak of. A lot of obese people. Detroit.

But ~3/4 of the states suck just as much, so at least you aren't alone.

Sept-Oct and Mar-May are genuinely nice and summer is no worse than most other places. I'd say 5+3 months of good weather.

It's just that the cold weather comes and stays a long time during the winter months.

Even Detroit is getting better, as can be expected considering that Coleman Young has been dead for 20+ years.  :) The city's bankruptcy has brought on a recovery. Meanwhile, the suburbs have always been pleasant even while when the inner city was in it's worst periods as a destitute Coleman Young infested black hole pit of crime, poverty, arson, and blight.

Interesting observations about Chicago since you brought up Detroit burbs. When I was in MD/PA, everyone brought up the high murder rate in Chicago. That's only in the ghetto. Downtown is a pretty safe place, safe as a huge city can be. The Subrurbs, most of them at least, are great! Good places to raise a family with enough population density or scarcity depending on your preference.

You did see who is running for the office now right? And he is already pushing the divisive Detroit vs Suburbs crap just like his Daddy.

I don't mind living in Michigan. I don't hate winter, summers are pretty nice, and Fall is fantastic. I hate rain and mud so Spring kinda sucks, but it seems to me that is one season that pretty much (sans the Desert) everyone gets.

Michigan has clean air and water and small towns and nice communities. Affordable, safe, pleasant.

Michigan is a great state with much more going for it that the cancerous tumor of a crime-infested urban disaster wasteland which you can just avoid interacting with by filling up on gas while still in civilization and then cutting through it on the expressways. And even the urban blight has stopped metastasizing now that the city's under adult supervision. Lately, it is been consistently getting much less awful to such an extent that even normal people are moving into city limits.

Your geography knowledge is compelling. Yes, the one up by Canada, that looks like a mitten as it is surrounded by lakes.

The football teams have seemingly switched, UM is now up and MSU is now down. Both teams are infested with kneelers sadly, or at least they were last year.

Kid Rock and Eminem are both my age and from Macomb County, the same white trash suburb that I'm from. The ghetto is in Detroit city which normally is best avoided, but eh, there's more and more actually decent parts even there now, sprining up in the blight.

While you guys are arguing which craptastic upper midwest state is the least bad, a lot of people from all of them move to Arizona.

Michigan has freshwater lakes and streams. When Climate Change drains the Colorado river and turns Arizona into an unlivable wasteland, Michigan will likely be even better than it is now if the winters are milder.

I used to hate the winters. When I first moved here from Ga. I had a very very hard time in adjusting to them. Driving in snow is a different beast. After a while I learned that the snow was a blessing. THAT is what keeps out the shitheadss.

I like it here. Small town, beach community, very quiet, very well funded and well run school system. My kids have no idea how good they have it.

I lived in Ann Arbor for a couple years, which is supposed to be fairly nice. It wasn't. Of course you'd never know if the other places you've lived are sh!tty too.

My friend just spent two years in Phoenix, and was ecstatic to return to HI. He said the weather and people sucked.

You are probably a pusssy and could not handle the cold.

Ann Arbor is consistently ranked as a top place to live in the U.S.

I like the cold - if there are mountains to enjoy. Ice fishing and hunting, not so much.

AA is ranked highly because the school and hospital are great - which is why I tolerated it for two years.

Florida sucks, hates Michigan but lives in the state with the highest homeless population and meth use? Or was it crack?

Michigan has beautiful summers.

This is correct. the rest of the town is a freakshow. I work in Ann Arbor and the downtown area, college campus, etc suck. Crummy liberal snooty, overpriced craphole. homeless people everywhere, (obnoxious, out of control ones..think San Francisco on a much smaller scale), and then you get the morons that take their dogs EVERYWHERE.

Most of the housing in the immediate area, is old, shitty, and jammed right on top of each other. Bike lanes everywhere but nobody chooses to use them. The most entitled group of pedestrians I have ever seen, just walking in front of traffic whenever, wherever they want, including against traffic signals.

If the state of Michigan needs an enema, Ann Arbor definitely deserves the tube.

Drugs are everywhere. Homeless are in every major city. Sh!tty weather most of the year and featureless terrain aren't.

If cost of living wasn't a consideration, most of the population wouldn't choose to live where they do.

NYC had the homeless situation under control. You barely saw them a few years ago. Then along came a progressive liberal and there they were again, almost overnight.

Yeah but only one state has the highest use and that's where you live. Can't be that great.

I don't think HI has the highest meth use...or overall drug use. Michigan is higher on both lists.

ETA - Hawaii was at the top of the list a few years ago, but it has been overtaken by the Midwest. But meth does account for a disproportionate amount of drug use in HI - do you prefer heroin addicts to methheads?

Cyclone- ever tip a cow ?

Fun fact, cow tipping isn't a real thing. It's just something in movies and on tv and urban myth. Cows don't sleep standing up, they spend lots of time on their stomach. They are also very alert animals and you can get kicked or crushed easy messing with them. Not saying it's not possible to physically push a cow over, but it's the same as assaulting any animal that's dangerously bigger than you are and not like it's depicted in pop culture.
