penultimatestraw 473 Posted August 29, 2017 FYI http://www.thedailybeast.com/texas-just-passed-a-new-law-that-could-screw-harvey-victims For many Texans ravaged by the rain and winds Hurricane Harvey carried ashore this past weekend, filing an insurance claim for the damage their property sustained is probably the farthest thing from their minds right now. But waiting to submit a claim past Friday could cost them big. A new law set to take effect Friday aims to crack down on frivolous insurance lawsuits. But House Bill 1774 also reduces the penalty interest rate insurance companies face for late payments if the policyholder files a lawsuit. If insurance companies are late in paying claims as a result of a lawsuit, they must pay an additional penalty to policyholders. Under current state law, that penalty comes in the form of a fee that totals 18 percent of the claim. For claims filed after Friday, that rate will be determined by a market-based formula that is capped at 20 percent. Currently, the rate would be 10 percent. While people filing claims by Friday would benefit from the higher penalty payouts in lawsuits, those same cases would be subject to provisions in the new law. Those provisions would decrease the chances insurance companies will have to pay the plaintiff’s attorneys fees in full and protect agents from being personally sued. Voltaire 5,316 Posted August 30, 2017 We found a hotel, it now is looking like our house may not flood. I will post everything later when I get to a computer. That's auspicious news. There was always that chance and since it hasn't happened yet at this late point, the odds should be good for you that it won't happen at all. How is the family holding up? Alias Detective 1,402 Posted August 31, 2017 My house is dependent on the Brazos river and it has not crested yet. It looks good, but we will not know for sure until Saturday. "Projected inundated areas include Columbia Lakes, Rosharon, Holiday Lakes, Bar X, Bailey's Prairie, much of Jones Creek, and parts of the city of Brazoria east of Highway 36. Nearly all of downtown West Columbia is spared on the map." I hope you aren't in one of these projected areas. Then again, that means I want someone else, I don't know, to flood. Old School 360 Posted August 31, 2017 Good luck man. Hope you get through this with minimal damage. Floods are focking nerve wracking- it slowly gets worse- and never sure when it will hit the peak an starts to recede.

MTSkiBum 1,620 Posted September 1, 2017 Issue 1. Nobody in my subdivision knew what the hell was going on. There were neighbors telling us(incorrectly) that the government was going to release the floodgates at 3pm which would flood our neighborhood but would spare a dam from breaking. The only information we could find out online was that there was mandatory evacuations and "flooding was imminent". This put us into an unnecessary panic. We were glued to the news and at this point i already had two coworkers houses under water, and most the roads leaving our section of town were under water. I had no reason to not believe this report. More information at this point would have been extremely helpful. Later that day we found out the actual cause. There is a levee protecting our section of Sugar Land from the Brazos river and at that time it was forecasted to go over the top of the levee on Tuesday afternoon. MTSkiBum 1,620 Posted September 1, 2017 Has it crested? No, it crests tomorrow. To be honest I am not too worried anymore, our subdivision floods at 59 feet. They had it forecasted to go to 59 feet, but then thankfully the storm moved out. https://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=hgx&gage=rmot2

giraldi02 474 Posted October 9, 2017 Best of luck. /edit I had to search around for the news of these fires, this is the first I have heard about them. We are not even hearing about them nationally. It seems pretty bad. The crazy thing about this one is that it blew up last night. CA had a pretty bad heatwave this weekend, but I think it was the winds last night that made this thing into a beast. Some areas around there were getting gusts at 60+ MPH. Lot of sustained winds between 35-50MPH too.

giraldi02 474 Posted October 9, 2017 Petaluma Gotcha. Fortunately you're a little bit south then and you have the 101 to be able to hop onto to get out. Some of the videos I've seen from dash cams/cameraphones are out in the sticks. Country roads and even areas of 12 that just look difficult to drive throughout. Stay safe man! Bier Meister 1,710 Posted October 9, 2017 it is pretty widespread. the threat to us is from the north east (we are on the east side of petaluma) vs north. we are ok for the moment and have everything packed and ready. walked through the house and recorded our possessions in case we need it for insurance.
