Wow, that truly sucks. Best of luck. I can't even imagine. I wonder if after all is said and done if you can still make an insurance claim sans flood insurance.

FEMA has a program that loans up to $25,000 to fix the basic amenities, kitchen, bathrooms, electrical, etc. I'm sure FEMA will also have to figure out how to house a million plus people. Ski, I hate to say it, but you may have to live with your family in a FEMA trailer if you decide to stay. I know a lot pf people who lived in them while they rebuilt their house and business. I wouldn't wish that on Wiff.

I made it to a coworkers house. As soon as i-10 clears my wife will drive to el paso and live their for the foreseeable future. My mom renovates houses, as soon as the floodwaters recede she will drive down and we will gut everything. We can probably do it in 2-3 days.

Our carpet is 25 years old, the house has not been painted in 25 years, etc. At least we did not recently renovate.

Jesus man, that's awful. Especially with the young family to worry about :(

Focus on staying safe and don't worry about your replaceable possessions for now. Sucks about the flood insurance but won't there be some disaster relief funds or other avenues for you to recover? Anyway don't worry about that right now either. Just keep the family safe.

Best of luck to you, we're all pulling for you

Do you own the house outright? I can't imagine a mortgage company giving you a loan living near or in a flood zone and not requiring flood insurance.

As far as packing, make sure you have a few full gas tanks. Gas is going to be in demand for the foreseeable future.

He's a petroleum engineer. He can probably make gas out of water.

In NOLA, how long did it take before people could safely move back into their homes?

Oh man what's the scene like at your place skibum? Flooding nearby?

No flooding around my place, I was shocked to find out this morning that we had to evacuate. I think they are worried the levee that is holding back the brazos river will break, but I am still unclear about this.

I am still not 100% sure what is going on. Trying to find news about any of this is difficult. I no longer think they will flood our house at 3 pm.

We are outside the 100 year flood plain, no flooding anywhere near my house as of yet. There is no reason to have flood insurance where I live because it is a once every 1000 year flood.

Wrong type of boat. The officials are looking for boats and i have a fishing buddy that is helping out with his, but they are looking for shallow water boats.

Hopefully they misjudged the severity of flooding in your favor. Weathermen are terrible, and I'm sure they would err on the side of caution regarding the levee.

We had that major earthquake in Chengdu in 2007 and in the next couple of weeks we'd had so many aftershocks, like thousands, I'd said at the time that the ground was rocking so much that it was like being on a boat except I was sitting in my living room.

And you're kind of like that, not that the effect that ground is rocking but in that you can sit on your dining room table and go fishing.

That was 2008 wasn't it? I remember because that was on my birthday. Also, it was right after the Burma cyclone-hit. But hey, you're there, I guess you'd know.

But then it would be insured

inside joke, his house would likely have been on fire had he still lived in montana.

Fire season in Montana has reached a dangerous new level. Blazes are growing and now threatening larger towns as the state is running out of money to fight them.

Set the house on fire to reverse the effects of the flood. Fire and water are opposites, take a chemistry class bro.

Exactly. I do the same type thing in fantasy, it's called the cancel out theory.

It's Texas. Spray paint antifa and blm on the nearest tree, loot the place a bit, and light her up. They'll buy it.

Yeah, you're right. 2008. I didn't remember the year but can figure it out as my eldest was a baby then and wife was pregnant with out second. Then, since I know how old they are, I can apply my amazing arithmatic skills to get the answer.

Believe me, I'm well aware of the fires in Montana. Between those fires and the ones in Canada, we could hardly focking breath here in Washington for a while <_<

Also it looks like my wife will not be able to make it to her parents tomorrow. We will all be stuck at my coworkers house.
