As someone who lost my brother to suicide, I'll tell you what she would go through; Every major milestone. Every birthday. Every birth. Every wedding. Every Christmas. All of it. No matter how happy the occasion, in the back of her head and not too far back ,mind you, will always be the thought 'damn, I wish my dad was here to enjoy it.'

 

People closest to her will see it. Just smile, but never quite enough. Never quite the same. She'll smile for other people. Just smile because that's what you do.

 

Even a great song, or a good day, or a funny movie, even years later, that's what she'll be thinking. That's not fuucking speculation. That's every god damn day for 13 years and 4 months to the day. And God damn, you wouldn't want to wish that on her. I know that.

 

And I haven't even mentioned that she will constantly relive every single slight, every cross word, every shiity thing teenage girls do and say, all of it. She'll spend the rest of her life thinking she would have, she could have, and worst of all, she should have.

 

She just fuucking should have...

 

And the only single person in the whole wide world who can forgive her, who can give her the Absolution she'll spend the rest of her life seeking?

 

And that's the hell of it all.

 

It won't get any better for her with time. In fact, when she does manage to go a week and then two and then a month without thinking about what happened years ago, she'll feel like hammered shiit and the worst kind of daughter in the whole wide world because she hadn't thought of you recently. And the guilt will be enough to damn near fuccking Crush her.

And she'll feel like the lowest, most selfish piece of shiit on the planet for that moment when of all times she should be happy.

 

That shiit doesn't fade. And it damn sure doesn't end. And her best day? Will be the day when she knows she doesn't have to feel that way one day longer. That will be your legacy to her.
