titans&bucs&bearsohmy! 2,745 Posted August 17, 2018 Losers on both sides. The losers that insist on putting the Ten Commandments everywhere. And the losers who spent money on a Satan statue (which is kinda badass looking btw.) The town I went to college in had similar protests like 20 years ago. People need to get a life. Hence the first amendment. I dont think it is appropriate to adorn the halls of government with scripture honestly. And its mostly done and funded by people who want to force their religious beliefs on others via law. But people who go nuts about it are idiots too. Its like many controversies in modern America. wiffleball 4,645 Posted August 17, 2018 While I don't necessarily disagree with your conclusion, anybody who has even a modicum of biblical sense would tell you that the Grimm Brothers literally have a more believable spiel then the Genesis of the Ten Commandments. You would literally have to be retarded to believe that bullshiit. And, not to further rain on your parade, but the principles espoused therein? Ain't exactly breaking new territory. I can and have repeatedly torn people apart who believed that the Ten Commandments is somehow the super duper 10 most importantest things you could ever do or not do according to Burning Ficus God. Voltaire 4,562 Posted August 17, 2018 There was a time when I was more juvenile and would have found this funny. But the situation has changed and it's harder now to hate on the fundies anymore since they've suffered a string of losses against out-of-control SJWs, are now political allies, and are playing defense. Having a god before the biblical one. Death worthy? Graven images. Death. Death for taking the lords name on vain is a little god dam harsh. I mean Jesus focking Christ. Failing to honor ones father and mother is death worthy? Even if your parents are real pieces of sh!t? Adultery? Hardly noble, but bullet to the face worthy? Ill give you murder and theft. wiffleball 4,645 Posted August 17, 2018 This is always been my favorite part. And concurrently, the least favorite part of every priest I've ever met including my own Uncle who is trained by the Jesuits in Rome. So you're telling me the Ten Commandments are the most important things that you either have to do or not do according to God? Yep. In fact, so important that in all of biblical history, the only time that God manifest itself here on Earth is to come down and provide these Ten Commandments - all of course while disguised as a burning ficus tree. Well, some kind of vegetation. Let's not quibble. But you agree that these are be 10 most important things that God tells us either do or not do, right? Right. And God can see as far into the future as the East is from the West, right? So that which God comes up with isn't skewed by societal Norms or the vagaries of Mankind's own tempestuous shifting morality, correct? Well obviously.. so setting aside the fact that God apparently follows a base 10 accounting system and the context in which Moses presented this. The context in which he was losing his crowd- You're telling me that the God who loves children more than anything else on the planet as outlined repeatedly in the Bible both New and Old Testament. You're telling me that God who can see as far into the future as the East from the West. That God that is not swung by the vagaries of temporal societal norms and practices. THAT guy dedicates a full 40% of the Ten Commandments to various aspects of worshipping himself? ...But not a focking word about Child abuse or slavery? ----------------- Yeah, this isn't a got you. Anybody who actually does have faith in an omniscient and all loving God cannot look at the Ten Commandments on their face nor the context in which they were allegedly delivered unto mankind and take the story seriously. Mike Honcho 4,039 Posted August 17, 2018 I dunno, I don't call people who are Christian or Jewish losers, the country was founded on Judeo-Christian beliefs, and I have no problem acknowledging that No it was not. Thomas Jefferson in an April 11, 1823, letter to John Adams: The day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus by the Supreme Being in the womb of a virgin, will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter. ... But we may hope that the dawn of reason and freedom of thought in these United States will do away with all this artificial scaffolding.... Declaration of Independence (1776) “to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.” U.S. Constitution (1787) - 0 references to God Federalist Papers(1787-88) 0 references to God, Religion is only discussed in the context of keeping matters of faith separate from concerns of governance, and of keeping religion free from government interference.
