Nike cancels American flag shoe after Kaepernick complains it’s racist

It's not an easy thing to capitalize on. A huge percentage of athleticwear/sneakers are bought by African americans. I don't think any of these companies want to make a stand as the official sneaker of cranky middle-aged white guys.

yea, cause major college athletics ADs and pro sports owners are historically minorities, so bleepin stupid.  More money is made in this market than can ever be made in the gen pub.

Oh and no way cranky middle aged white guys but team apparel

Then perhaps he's right and Adidas will come out as the official sneaker of white supremacists. I guess we'll see.

Adidas isn't an American company.

You don't have to be an American company to capitalize on a situation.

This seems incorrect to me.  My wife works at a K-12 school and almost every kid there wears sneakers.  Less than 1% of the kids at her school are African American.

Kids wear the sneakers that their sports idols wear.  See where the problem lies as far as trying to capitalize on the angry white guy rage?

Are you saying that kids these days aren't going to wear red, white, and blue Under Armors?

I am one of the few liberals on this bored and I think the hoop-la over the early version of the American flag is just plain ass ridiculous. Sure slaves existed then, but that wasn't what the flag was about. Should we tear down the pyramids because they were slave built?

The colosseum in Rome was slave built, and they fed Christian families to the lions there. Lets implode that thing and march around it singing "Onward Christian Soldiers".

I am glad Kaepernick got his NFL settlement, and applaud him for giving more than a million dollars to charitable causes, but the flag beef is stupid. Not everything is about slavery and not everything needs to go away because of slavery.

Well said.

By this logic the original constitution should be gotten rid of. It blatantly was racist.

The white house, the capitol, the Washington monument, and other landmarks were built with slave labor, at least in part.

Is it right? Of course not. Does that mean we need to raze them all to the ground? Of course not.

Its a stain on out history. We have to acknowledge it, and correct it. And that has happened.

How come no one gets on England about their flag? We inherited slavery here from them. The original sinners. As long as we're holding people from hundreds of years ago accountable.  Clowns.

So, while China has actual concentration camps for Muslims, in 2019, the harping is about the Betsy Ross flag.  Why? Because China will tell them to go Fock themselves.  And multinationals like Nike and Hollywood are only woke when they won't lose money. That's why in 100 years china will still be china. And we'll be something unrecognizable.

Freaks + Bob Ross in the same sentence is sacrilege.

Bob Ross is a great, outstanding, beloved human being. He has nothing to do with these assholes.

Take it back.

He also puts to rest the fake narrative about the original kneeling scandal being about "police brutality" as a total lie, something most of us already knew.

Just the opposite actually. All you guys already boycotted Nike when they announced Kaepernick as the spokesman last year.  Once you've already decided to stop buying their products, them making you angry has zero effect. What they did was they got you to be their marketing firm this past week. Totally free of cost.

I can get more pissed off and rekindled anger, but I can't double boycott, no.

Still, weren't these shoes already made and ready for sale when they were pulled? If so, they'd lose quite a bit of money but I wouldn't put it past them to sit on the shoes for a year and then use the notoriety and free publicity you mention to sell them for more money next year.

I think you missed the point, there were sunk costs associated with the development, manufacture, and distribution of these shoes that the company will have to eat.

Assuming this wasn't a marketing ploy from the very start.
