TBayXXXVII 2,545 Posted May 5, 2021 Yang is living in a fantasy world. He's trying to equate the pipeline, to which Alaska has control over to Big Tech which isn't a public entity. He says that since Alaska can have a UBI of $1-$2k per month, the country could as well. The coloration is ridiculous. If Big Tech was owned by the government, then he'd have a point, but it's not... they're privately owned. Here's the other kicker... it won't actually help the poor people. You would have to enroll in this program. If you do, your forfeit all social benefits, i.e., welfare, food stamps, section 8 housing, etc. Well, why would those people take the UBI? They're better off on government assistance and working under the table jobs. His thinking is that someone on government assistance will go out and get jobs knowing they'll still get the $12k without having to worry about earning too much. Yeah, in a fantasy world that'll work. What jobs does he think those people are going to get? They're going to get minimum wage jobs. Jobs, that he says are going away. He claims that companies like Amazon are eliminating retail jobs... which he says are the biggest employer in the country. Ok, so now where are these people going to work them? McDonald's? He complains that Amazon paid $0 in federal taxes last year. Tell me again what political party they support? In a nutshell, he wants the money to come from Big Tech to pay people $1k per month. Since Big Tech is privately owned and they control their income, they're simply going to raise the costs of their products to cover the money they're paying for the UBI. For some reason either Yang doesn't see this or chooses to ignore it. I'm thinking the latter. He's going to need to create victims (the Democrat agenda), in order to become needed. Oh, and he's blaming Trump too. That's in the 1 hour clip. Can't be a Democrat and not find a reason to blame Trump.

KSB2424 3,148 Posted May 5, 2021 I’ve always been a proponent of a UBI. However it is INSTEAD of social security, food stamps, unemployment, on and on. It’d be a money saver in just simplification / administration costs alone. i.e. every person over 18 gets $1,200 a month. But there is no food stamps or welfare or unemployment. The welfare baby factory losers simply get $ to put their babies in daycare and MUST work to receive any additional income. That's how you stop the cycle of democrat voters. My point was that the Left thinks poverty causes crime. They also think that UBI would fixes poverty. As Yang points out, Alaska has had a UBI for 37 years. Apparently that hasn't helped in Alaska. You pointing out that a Leftist policy (UBI), doesn't work (Alaska highest crime rate in the country), you would be painted as alt-right, in the minds of the Democrat party. Alaska is exactly why conservatives say UBI won't work. The normal Democrat protocol is "Our idea isn't wrong, we just need to invest more money in it". If we instituted $1k UBI tomorrow, by 2026 it would be $1500. In 10 years, it'll be $2k... because "inflation". Ignoring the fact that the UBI caused the inflation. It's how the Dems roll. I wasn't making any conclusions other than the fact that putting $1000 in a person's pocket doesn't seem to reduce crime since Alaska has such a high violent crime rate. ETA, I understand your point that which is that Alaska attracts a certain type of individual so therefore the crime rate would be high no matter what because those that live there tend to be different, outsiders, non-conformists, loners, serial killers (lol).
