Not all do, but those that do, if they are vaccinated they know that the risk is low of catching covid, but it's not zero.    Also even if it's only spreading among the unvaccinated, if for some reason there is a spike in cases, new restrictions could get put in place and contrary to what some here think, 99% of people don't want that.

I was perfectly happy to toss the mask aside as soon as the CDC changed its guidance.

Still have to wear them in many restaurants, etc. These adjustments take time and I can understand if the staff are still nervous. Look at it from their perspective: they have no idea if their patrons are vaccinated, and you know many unvaccinated people are going ahead and pretending they are.

But I’m sure it’ll pass and soon you’ll be able to go pretty much anywhere without one

Trump was right from the get go.  The CDC was playing games this whole time. Trumps stance was:

1.  If you are obese, old, or have pre-existing conditions you should take caution.  Wear a mask, social distance or stay at home.

2.  If you are not in that category then it is your personal choice to take whatever precautions you deem warranted.  Wearing a mask, social distancing is recommend but not mandatory.

3.  Schools should be open, children are not at risk for Covid-19.  

4.  Wearing a mask outside like at the beach, in a park, walking or exercising is not warranted.  

5.  Institute Operation Warp Speed so the gov't and private sector gets a Covid Vaccine out that has been properly tested for efficacy and safety ASAP.

Was that before or after he thought the virus would disappear and we'd be back to normal by Easter? (Note: if obese, old people and those with pre-existing conditions still need to social distance and stay home then we're not back to normal).  Also, Trump is old and obese, so shouldn't he have been wearing a mask?

It wasn't just his disdain of masks that lost him the election.   But that was pretty much the start of him not taking covid seriously enough for a lot of people.   The US wasn't the "world's biggest failure," but I'm sure we could've done a lot better.

There were DAILY press conferences with the POTUS and team updating the public on testing, recommendations, data, etc.  The gov't threw billions of dollars at the issue.  I watched the daily pressers because I was at home working as everything was shut down.  JFC

The general public are stupid and panic.  In North Carolina we recently had a gas shortage and people were filling Tupperware with gas for heavens sake. When it snows everyone goes out and buys milk and break like its the Apocalypse.   Trump was being optimistic and didn't want people to panic.  Then the Covid-19 task force led by Pence, the Surgeon General, Birx and Fauci would get up there and give the official guidance.
