Clint Eastwood vs John Wayne

Recommended Posts

Better movies? Who's tougher? Who would you rather have a beer with? Whatever the reasoning.

Pick one

Better movies.  Clint by a mile.

Beer: John Wayne---he's dead, so he wouldn't ruin the moment by talking.

Tougher: John Wayne

Movies: Clint

Beer: Clint

That being said, this was harder than most cause I LOVE those old John Wayne movies. Dad and I used to watch them together all the time growing up so I have fond memories of those movies

Doesn't matter. Da coach Ditka beats them both with simply a glance.

Ditka is a gum chewing pusscake.  He showed his true talent in New Orleans.

As a player he single-handedly redefined the TE position in football. Shows how little you know about football.

And how many superbowl winning teams did he play on?

If you are going to pick a tough football player Tatum would wipe his ass with Ditka.  You really don't know much about football.

Ditka was great but I wouldn't say redefined the TE position.  Another guy named Tony, that also  didn't win a superbowl, did much more.

Wayne wasn't fortunate enough to film in the modern movie age (pre-1960's). Before that, actors were way too over-dramatic and it seems totally unnatural and ridiculous today. (only pre-1960 actor that actually acted natural was Marlon Brando... he was before his time).

Wayne's later movies were actually pretty good. True Grit, the Shootist, and a few war movies.

Ditka and Tom Flores are the only people to win an NFL title as a player, an assistant coach, and a head coach. Ditka, Flores, Gary Kubiak, and Doug Pederson are also the only people in modern NFL history to win a championship as head coach of a team for which he played previously.[1] Ditka is the only person to participate in both of the last two Chicago Bears' league championships, as a player in 1963 and as head coach in 1985.

Didn't win a superbowl as a player.  And now that I think about it Newsome and Winslow were also better TE than Ditka.

Also, Buddy Ryan gave Ditka that suoerbowl.  See his record without Buddy as defensive coordinator.

Seriously. Do you know anything about the history of the NFL? Ditka was a TE in the NFL in 1961 for God's sake. In 1964 he had 75 receptions, as a tight end, for almost 900 yards.

He changed the game for tight ends. It all started with Ditka.

NFL Future: The Evolution of the Tight End from Ditka to Gronk

The modern day NFL tight end was truly born in the 1961 draft when the Chicago Bears drafted Mike Ditka with the fifth overall pick. The Pittsburgh standout became the first tight end to put up real receiving numbers.

Mike Ditka retired with 427 receptions, which were Hall of Fame numbers at the time.

NFL tight ends continue evolution started by Mike Ditka and are now key weapons on offense

When Mike Ditka was playing for George Halas' Bears, sticking his hand in the dirt and his facemask into a linebacker's chest, it was probably not occurring to him how he was pioneering the free-wheeling position of the modern day tight end.

Ditka was in the early 60s. Titles. Again, you don't know NFL history.

Also, how many hall of fame inductions did Tatum have? Ditka had only one. :(

Does his last name start with a G ? Ditka is a awesome dude and my dad meant him and said how cool he was to all. KW the fist think was ahead of TG. To add to the story my dad met Mike when my dad was going through broadcast school in Pitt Pa. Winslow was the Sh!t before them all as TE.

I do not think I have ever liked a movie with Clint eastwood or john wayne in it.

As far as having a beer, i am not sure i would have much in common with either hollywood actor, the only reason I would have a beer with clint is because it would be something to brag about later in life. Outside of that reason there is not many hollywood actors that I would care to meet.

There is probably one or two that are into fishing and technology, but I am not sure who they are.

Can't imagine the type of person who wouldn't like the Dirty Harry movies.

I golfed 50+ times a year as a teenager, in my 20's I had a membership sporadically at golf courses where I would golf 50+ times a year.

However, since I golfed with you I may have golfed twice.

I have nobody to golf with and i do not want to golf with random people.

He gave up an ENTIRE draft and a 1st and 3rd draft pick the following year for a fruit cake that he could not coach. One of the worst decisions in coaching history.

If you are going to base someone's whole career on one stupid move, then have at it.

I've seen a lot of movies that came out before I was born. It's not hard to figure out how to do that.

Star Wars was a pretty good movie from the 70s. Alien. One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest. Apocalypse Now. Rocky. The Exorcist. The Deer Hunter. Animal House.  Enter the Dragon. All the Dirty Harry films. Etc... I never saw any of those in the 70's. Go figure.

Crazy. Can't imagine what you like. I'm guessing movies like Bridget Jones's Diary.

The only SuperBowl he won was because of Buddy Ryan and his defense, not Ditka. He also didn’t give the ball to sweetness on the goal line in that game. His one dream was to score a TD in the SB. What did Ditka do, give it to phat ass refrigerator.

The Shootist is the only Wayne movie I can watch, everything else is just formulaic studio flicks with a below average actor.

He regrets the Walter Payton thing to this day. I heard him talk about more than a couple times. Hate the guy all you want, I was never talking about whether he made great certain decisions or not. I was just saying how he transformed the TE position when he played for the Bears. And he was involved in winning titles as a player, a coaching assistant and a head coach. Only 1 of 2 people who have done that in the history of the NFL.

When Ditka knew his time as a head coach in New Orleans was coming to an end, I decided to make a sign for his farewell party the night before. Got good and shittty at my friends house. Woke up and made nice Bloody Mary. To nice. Anyway, I took the sheet off the bed and went in his garage, got some black spray paint, and wrote something magical.

Fast forward to the game. We go to park in Macy’s garage next to the Dome. $15.00 if your shopping, $40.00 if you’re going to the game.  Beautiful Parking Attendant:  That will be $40.00 sir.  Me: We’re going shopping. BPA: Sir, you can’t fool me.  Me: I’m registered at Macy’s. Getting married.  BPA: You’re all wearing Saints shirts and your tickets are in your shirt pocket.  My friends laughed so hard that I didn’t argue.

So we get in the Dome and drink some more before the game. Five minutes before the game I unleashed the sheet. Section 601 on the rail. Put the sheet on the rail and smiled happily. Friends were like, WTF did you do now?  The white sheet with black spray paint said “Suck My Ditka”  Not even five minutes after I hung my masterpiece, an NOPD cop came and took it down. He laughed and said “The eye in the sky chief.”

I followed him to see where he tossed it. Waited till the middle of the 4th quarter and retrieved it. We’re getting or ass kicked by the crappy Raiders. Got a round and went to put my sheet up again a section down. Stumbled down and tried to put it up again when this old man tells not to. I ignored him. His mentally challenged son said “Don’t you hurt my daddy!!!” And with gorilla strength, punches me in the kidney. I fell down and was in serious pain. I looked up, and friends were crying laughing. Got up and limped away, with my sheet.

on the way home, they kept poking me where super man hit me. We got Rallys and I threw up a fence. Used the sheet to clean myself up.

Even movies from the 80's are pretty bad by today's standards. My wife and I watched Rainman recently, because it was a best picture winner that we have never seen. That was supposedly the best movie of the year, but it was kind of average.

Tom Cruise was a d1ck to his brother the entire movie right up until his brother started winning money for him in the casino. They he still was a d1ck to his brother, but just slightly less. I am supposed to feel sympathy towards him at the end of the movie

We also watched Godfather for the first time recently and also pretty average by today's standards.

The only movie prior to 1990 that someone seeing it for the first time would rate it as an excellent movie would be airplane.  It is the single movie that stands the test of time. Although it will be outdated before too long.

Tom Cruise is a dlck.

I wasn't a really big Rainman fan either. I'm also not a fan of a lot of movies put out over the past 10-15 years either. So much garbage out there these days that I don't put much thought into trying to even find them. I did like the Mandalorian series a whole lot. Breaking Bad was pretty good for a show that there was absolutely no character that was likable. But not so much in the movie scene.

For the 80's, Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of my favorite movies of all time. The Terminator was pretty good. Die Hard. The Shining. The cheesy John Hughs' movies I liked. The Princess Bride is a classic. Back to the Future. The Empire Strikes Back. Misery had a great villain and story.

I have watched all of those movies multiple times over the years. They never get old for me, but it's just so subjective a topic I guess. :dunno:
