its interesting watching the reactions to the PSA.  30 years ago, the reaction would have been something like "this is a serious topic and we need preparedness on this issue so this is good".  Today the reaction is to suspect ulterior motives. "Oh they are trying to scare us!"

I like the suggestion to follow the media, media which will be disabled by the EMP.

When i was a child they use to drill us in school to go to an interior hallway, sit down, place your head between your legs, cover your head with your arms, and then kiss your ass goodbye.

I think most people wouldn't die in the initial blast.  A nuke probably kills most people in a 10 mile radius, but New York, for example, is 300 square miles.  LA is 500 square miles.  Most people would be stuck dealing with radiation fallout.

Although, if Russia did want to nuke the US they'd probably have to send several nukes per city since we'd shoot down a lot of the missiles.  Some cities would suffer multiple strikes.

Math is not my strong suit, but a ten mile radius, squared, then multipled by Pi seems to yield 314 squre miles, or did I do it wrong?

Your math is right, but that means I messed something up because a nuke isn't killing everyone in New York city.

to be fair, russia probably knowsnew york city is too big for 1 nuke so they will probably hit it with 5-7.

Basically where the human race is at is:

1.  The West is terrified or Iran or North Korea getting nuclear weapons because we assert they'd blow up the Earth if they got them.  We watch them like a hawk for any sign of developing them.  Or they hold us for ransom, telling us pay us money / food /etc. or we restart our programs.  And we pay the ransom.  Quietly.

2.  The West calls Putin a madman.  A dictator.  Another Hitler.

3.  Putin keeps threatening to nuke the West.

4.  The West is absolutely SURE its a bluff.  There is nothing to be worried about.  In fact, if you are worried, you are a doomsayer.

None of that passes the smell test.  I think its a coping mechanism.  You realize Putin has the bomb and you think he is exactly like Iran and North Korea.  Deep down, you KNOW he will nuke.  But the notion is too terrifying to think about.  And you certainly can't run around telling everyone how you truly feel because you are cowed by the thought of being called a doomsayer.  So you stick your fingers in your ears, cover your eyes, ignore the incongruities, and hate yourself for knowing what is coming and being unable to do anything about it.  Just quietly prepare you and your family as best you can.

Life is too short the way it is to be worried about stuff like this. I choose to enjoy life and not worry about things out of my control like which countries have nukes.

1.  Russia is cutting off critical gas to Europe, especially Germany.
2.  Russia will take ALL of Ukraine before winter.
3.  Germany will suffer very low morale when they lack gas as winter approaches.
4.  Russia will also be massing an invasion force to attack Europe as winter gets closer.

You can just see everything falling into place. Putin starves Germany of gas and gets ready to invade.

Everything I read says Russia is advancing very slowly and HIMARS are decimating their ammo depots and command and control. Ukraine is mounting a second front in Kherson, as well. I read all these articles saying Russia is going to run out of troops or ammo soon...but I feel like I have been reading these articles for a couple of months. All these ex-Generals quoted in media are far too pro-Ukraine, so I don't trust articles where they are quoted.

I would highly doubt Russia takes all of Ukraine before winter, unless they formally declare war. A long drawn out war is more probable. I don't know why the hell they would attack the rest of Europe. They can barely handle Ukraine. They'd get steamrolled and they know it. They must see that they have a tech disadvantage with the West.

Russia would get wiped out in a conventional war with NATO.  That's why they've been blackmailing everyone with nukes.  Putin saw Biden abandon Afghanistan and flee.  Putin will try to force NATO do to the same.  He will invade Europe and tell NATO if they fire one bullet, he will nuke Europe and the US.  NATO must stand down or everyone dies.

But NATO has nukes too. So they won't fire a single bullet and will just let Russia take the entire continent because....Russia is willing to use nukes and they are not? Why?

I did not say NATO would not use nukes. you misread what i said.  I offered TWO scenarios.

NATO must stand down or everyone dies.

Russia is willing to blow up the world if NATO opts to fire back with nukes. That would be a victory in Russia's book because its a better fate to destroy the planet than to allow the hellscape of homosexuality, paedophilia, mutiliation of children into Russia.  But Russia will play it assuming NATO surrenders.  If not, oh well.

Experts: Putin Might Be Saving Aerial Firepower for Attack on NATO

By Eric Mack    |   Wednesday, 27 July 2022 08:01 PM EDT

NATO released a report Wednesday suggesting that Russian President Vladimir Putin might be saving his aerial firepower amid the war in Ukraine for a potential attack on NATO nations.

The NATO Defense College's brief, "Russia's military after Ukraine: down but not out," outlines Russia's resources amid losses in its current "special military operation" in Ukraine.

"Russia has not utilized its full military potential in the attack against Ukraine," the analysis read. "It did not order general mobilization. Maintaining the ability to engage, if needed, in operations against NATO may explain some of the characteristics and 'surprises' of the Russian war against Ukraine, for example the limited use of airpower, gradual deployment of older and less precise weapon systems, or what appear to be subdued attacks in cyberspace.

"The official Russian narrative is almost always defensive, but the essence of Moscow's approach is to change the status quo. In this context, an attack against a NATO country remains a possibility."

Military experts have long warned that Putin's designs on Ukraine might extend to other former Soviet Union nations, including those that have already been given defense assurances through NATO.

"Next year, the situation may be worse not only for Ukraine but also for several other countries, possibly NATO members, that may be under fire from Russia," Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told NATO in June. "Then it will be our common failure — both for Ukraine and for NATO."

Wednesday's NATO analysis of Russia's remaining military force echoed those warnings.

"The poor performance of the Russian forces in the first months of their war against Ukraine and the scale of casualties and material losses they suffered should however prompt further reflection about Russia's ability to recover and challenge NATO militarily," the report read.

The analysis cited Ukraine Defense Ministry estimates that Russia has "lost 35,870 military personnel, approximately 1,582 tanks, 3,737 armored vehicles, 800 artillery systems, 246 multiple launch rocket systems, 217 aircraft, 186 helicopters, and 15 ships" since Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24.

why?

we spent enormous amounts of time and money fretting over Iran and North Korea getting nuclear weapons for DECADES.  The clearly stated reason for this has been that if they got the bomb, they'd start blowing up the world.  Everyone is now screaming that Putin is a power mad dictator, another Hitler, and is threatening to blow up the world like 50 times, and yet once in a while I hear this "magical thinking" where people draw the line at him actually nuking us without explaining why.

Why is that?

Is it because it makes you uncomfortable?  Is it because the notion that the human race is about to end forever, and everything we did as a species was a waste of time, is such a horrible thought that it simply must be wrong?

Look at what is going on without bias.  We are focking up.

Or maybe you think no one would nuke.  Let's give Iran nukes.  Let's give North Korea nukes.  Hand them out like candy.  No-one will use them.

Is our only course of action right now to bow before Putin?  Or is there something else we can do?

Imagine this conversation with a liberal:

"Would Trump nuke the world?"
"Of course he would he is crazy!"
"Would Putin nuke the world?"
"Obviously not that's a stupid question!"

I don't believe it because I don't think he's some super villain like in a movie that wants to end the world.  Maybe I'm wrong but I just don't agree with it.
