Simple fact with Disney is- they donated money to DeSantis multiple times. They banned gay people dancing together there until like the late 80's. They have a lot of LGBTQ people who work for the company in the parks, behind the scenes, and in front of the cameras. They stayed out of the conversation for a long time and then issued a statement and DeSantis blew his top and has made himself look like a fool since. There is a way this can all be brushed away and ignored but DeSantis is going to try and keep bringing it up because his whole identity politically will be "I am the man who stood up to Woke Disney. " To a lot of the voting public they are not going to care. To stupid people he will be "taking down a company that tried to usurp democracy."

I know the answer you want. Their stock is trading at 97.84 right now. There are a number of factors for that and "woke" is way down that list if it is even on it. Not to mention- their stock 3 months ago was trading at 113 a share. Things ebb and flow because of natural market factors.

The Big Mouse didn't stay in it's own lane. It decided it wanted to be a political entity more than a business and a brand. So DeSantis treated them like a political enemy. 

Disney's total valuation is somewhere around 150 billion dollars. 

So, a fair question here, should they be considered a "private entity" anymore? They have massive influence, they've donated to the point of having massive political influence, they came out in public and engaged in political conflict, and have a financial warchest to sustain a projected political battle of wills if need be. 

In Mexico, it's an open secret that the major drug Cartels, through shells and intermediaries, basically own the resorts and tourist areas. They also have a widespread rule to not hurt any Americans and tourists. It's bad for business and if you keep doing that, you will start a fight with the American government. BUT WITH THE CAVEAT THAT IF YOU WANT TO BE TREATED LIKE A CIVILIAN, THEN YOU HAVE TO ACT LIKE ONE.  As long as the tourists don't go doing "gangster" level crap , they are treated like civilians. But if you go out there as an American acting like a bandit and do stick ups and crime and try to sell your own drugs, what do you think happens then? 

If you want to have the safety of a tourist, act like a tourist. 

If you want to be a pretend gangster in a vicious den of real gangsters, then don't be surprised if you get massacred.

Citizens United said corporations had Free Speech rights, just like people.  So they are allowed to comment on public policy, spend money to support or oppose policy, they were in their lane and the government of Florida punished them for exercising their rights. DeSantis has overstepped his authority and when all is said and done, it will cost Florida much more than it costs Disney.

I'd like to think repurposing their brand in a woke direction is what's doing it, but I don't know, could well be other reasons. I don't have time to wade through the excuses/explanations.  Since they are continuing along their woke path, I hope that recovery eludes them and the slide continues.

Disney’s Frozen 3 and beyond

Earlier this month, the newly reinstated Disney CEO Bob Iger dropped the bombshell that three beloved franchises will be making their return. After discussing the challenges of theatrical distribution and streaming, the latter a major focus for Iger, the CEO revealed to eager listeners that sequels in the Frozen and Toy Story franchises are in the works, as is a sequel to the Academy Award-winning Zootopia (2016).

The announcement from Iger came after Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios had a troubling year when it came to the box office. Pixar released both Turning Red (2022) and Lightyear (2022) in 2022, with the former heading straight to The Walt Disney Company’s streaming service, Disney+. The latter opened theatrically, but the Toy Story franchise spinoff bombed, drawing backlash for its story, seeming departure from the Toy Story fans know and love, and its inclusion of a same-sex couple. Lightyear ended with $226 at the worldwide box office.

Disney’s diversity efforts continued later in 2022 with the release of Strange World (2022). The Jake Gyllenhaal-led family adventure performed well under expectations at the global box office, bringing in just shy of $74 million, with an estimated loss of between $100-$145 million. Strange World‘s demise was put down to poor marketing and poor premise, with audiences not really understanding what the movie was trying to do. What was remarkable, though, was its inclusion of Disney’s first openly gay teen character, Ethan Clade played by Jaboukie Young-White.

Some more conservative Disney fans may claim the downfall of Strange World is down to the House of Mouse’s apparent “woke” ideals — something that has been commentated on across all of Disney’s assets (movies, TV shows, theme parks, etc.). But, with Disney’s Frozen 3 (likely to be stylized as Frozen III) now in the works, is the studio about to take a big risk with its leading lady, Elsa?

My kid loves the frozen stuff, but if they start doing the gay stuff in the movie, there is zero chance I'll be taking her to it.  I don't need a first grader worrying about why elsa is messing with a chick.  All I need is the confusion to lead to her asking if two women can have kids or some dumb shìt and then the whole rabbit hole opens up.  It's just a negative free roll for me.  Only problems can occur.
