The movie made $118M in the US and $100M international.  If it was released in China, how much more revenue would they have made?

Keep in mind Encanto, a much better movie, made $59M in China.

So tell us how much Lightyear would have made in China, and what % of that revenue is compared to the $88B that Disney made last year.

I just reviewed that thread.  If you wanted to have this discussion a good time to have it would have been IN 2006 WHEN THAT THREAD WAS ACTIVE.  If you'd pressed me on that quote at the time I would have told you that it was somewhat tongue in cheek.  But I'm not going to revisit a 17 year old discussion now because you think it's some sort of gotcha.  GTFO with that weak sauce.

That's the big question, isn't it?  And I guess we'll never know, will we?  We know it is a non zero number unless you're going to try to argue that NO ONE would have gone to see it.  I hope you're not that dumb but given that we're having this discussion at all makes me wonder.   So, assuming we can agree it's not zero, we know it would have been something.  Which would make it a factor in the overall performance of the movie.  Which is Jerry's point.

It would've been the 5th biggest bomb of the year as opposed to the 3rd. I'm sure that would've stopped all narratives.

 

I mean yes- in function losing 60 million is not as bad as losing 105 million but like- it wasn't going to change the narratives in any way whatsoever. And furthermore, it was the number one movie on Disney+ for 35 consecutive days once it released so the controversy certainly didn't hurt it in the home market. 

Simple fact is a bunch of dudes in this thread (clearly have never seen the movie) are saying it was "woke" and therefore it bombed. Their evidence is "It was a Toy Story movie" (it wasn't) and "Look at all the money China has made them for Toy Story" (less than 3 % of the total global box office). This is as opposed to what are the most likely reasons- it was a prequel movie no one asked for, no one was clamoring for, and then just wasn't very good on top of it using a different animation style that looked less colorful and clunkier. I watched it with my kids- It is a bad movie....not because of a brief same sex kiss but because it is just not well made.

OK Yes, the number is not zero.  I'm asking you what the number is.  Let's just assume it does as well as Encanto, which is a stretch, but let's say it does $50M in China.  What does $50M in revenue do to Disney's annual revenue?  I'll do the math for you, .06% increase.  Now you tell me, is .06% significant?
