Student Loan “forgiveness”

Recommended Posts

I'm sure that's the purpose of it but that doesn't mean all liberals agree with it.  I think the majority of people who have paid of their loans, regardless of their political affiliation, do not agree with forgiving loans.

IMO it is largely to assuage the progressive part of the party; people like Bernie and Liz Warren who cackle incessantly about free college for everyone.  They realize that the rest of their comrades aren't ready for such a radical move, but this is a step in that direction.

All the liberals stand for is the redistribution of other people's wealth.

They will keep rewarding those who underperform at the expense of those who are successful and self reliant until we are all broke and dependent on the government like they are. Then, we get bread lines.

It's nice to see you acknowledging that I'm not a liberal since I do not stand for the redistribution of other people's wealth.

Instead of forgiving these loans that people took out WILLINGLY I might add, they just need to make the interest rate 1% and that would fix majority of the problems related to student loans

How?

The government probably does need to do more to reduce the cost of college, along with persuading people that they do not need to go to college.

We should try to push more people towards trade schools. There are too many people getting useless degrees.

It’s not wonder Biden is doing this. The man is a terrible father.  Horrendous. This is how he treated his own kids.

I paid my way thru college with loans and jobs and then repaid $30k over twenty years.  Everyone else can do the same.

I'd be pissed too.  I'm not interested in paying for people to go through liberal brainwashing factories.

On the first part, as others have pointed out, if you give colleges more money (or students more money for college), it just causes tuitions to go up.  Then we'll declare another "crisis" and the feedback loop continues.  :(

I certainly agree with the trade schools.

Part of me thinks the best solution is for government to (mostly) get out of the higher ed business.  I'm OK if they want to reimburse people to, say, spend time as a teacher in an inner city school.  But by and large let the market decide what schools to attend, which degrees to get, what loans to provide.  But that brings up an equality problem (a real one) where a capitalist loan market will tend to not lend money to poor people, so we should help them... I don't know, it is a complex issue.  :dunno:

I think it's trending more and more towards this.  I know my wife and I have been telling our kids that they don't need to go to college in order to get a good job.  It's going to take a while but I see it getting better.

They don’t care. They are in the process of replacing your kid right now. They win.

I know we have discussed "socialism"/forgiveness/reimbursement with regard to education many times.

Somewhere I had brought up the concept of reimbursement via civil position

@iam90sbaby  (I believe) listed a number of opportunities to do so.  I cannot find it.  Any way to bump that?

Remember when we were told the child tax credit lifted so many children out of poverty? I guess they get to go back to poverty but these grown men and women can get a quick 10k.  Also so glad that carried interest was kept.  Wouldn’t want hedge fund managers to pay the same tax rate as me. They are much better and deserve a break. Nice work libtards.

Why require as much interest as they have been?  Why not lower it, taxpayers don't cover that.

Wouldn't it just be that the loaner doesn't take in as much money then?  They still get what they loaned out to the student but they don't get as much back in the added interest fees.  I could be wrong here.

I didn't say you were jealous of me but you complain about others often.  In fact, you complain about a lot of things often.  You make it sound like no person should ever continue on their family's business.  I guess you would also call my cousin and his son daddy's boys that never had to make their own way.  My dad and uncles as well?  You would have to say the same about my grandpa as well.  Just a bunch of daddy's boys that had everything handed to them, right?

It's amazing how big of an ass you can make yourself look like on here.

Most student loans are granted at the federal level, Private lenders provide loans to students that need more than allowed at the federal level.

Will they add that $10k to taxable income?

I read that when they'd forgiven teachers/public servants that they just took the $$ from the forgiveness and added it to their yearly income on taxes. Which could really fock someone over if that forgiveness pushed them into a higher bracket.

This kind of thing is exactly what I think of when some celebrity or billionaire comes in and pays off all the student debt for a graduating class. How about the people who worked a job all the way thru college and don't get . The people who worked should get the same amount of money give to them.

It's a shell game folks.    Bookmark this post and tell me in 6 months if it's accurate or not:

  1. Biden did this via EO and it's legality is based on the "emergency" of CV19
  2. Courts will smack this down as unconstitutional
  3. Dems will wail and moan about "right wing justices" taking this away from poor student debtors and get their base whipped up in a frenzy about "all the right-wingers the right has put on the courts"
  4. Somehow this will work out that the dems get a little credit for trying to do this and the repubs will get the blame for "obstructing legislation to solve the student debt crisis"

All of this is exactly how the dems are maping this out and the repubs will walk right into the trap.
