Dragon's Lair is the GOAT - I never defeated it, but my buddy did *every time* I did beat Space Ace though

The Galaga footage at 12:40 is BS---the missiles are hitting him and not doing any damage.

I have a bunch of these games on my Xbox including Dragon's Lair and Space Ace. Never have beaten Space Ace, but I can usually get through Dragon's Lair on one continue or less.

Also, no Elevator Action or Missile Command on the list.

Their top ten sucked. Some of the honorable mentions should've made the top ten. Defender should've been higher as should Galaga.

Also, I played most of those on console but never at the arcade. Defender, Galaga and Tempest were the ones everybody played at the arcade.

Also, also, I second Honcho's nomination of Missile Command.

I understand why the early 80s stuff is on there, but when compared to the last half of the decade, those games were terrible.

honestly, all of the best arcade games were the sit downs inside of a cockpit that offered surround sound, funky lighting, and some of them rotated you as you pitched.  ill also include Battlezone as the periscope vision felt like it was dropping you into the game world.

Afterburner - 1987

battlezone 1980

Atari Star Wars 1983 (sit down enclosure)

The best one was the vintage 1980s photo booth, where the game is to close the curtain and make out with rustys mom.

Instead of defender, if you get a pic, go with stargate. So much better.

what really makes defender / stargate stand out is the way you can make your spaceship drift and also its extremely satisfying to see enemies explode into a starburst of its constituent bits.

I had a couple of the real games when I was a teenager. Galga and Frogger was two big name ones I had,

I turned Galaga over without cheating one day after work. Took two hours. Forgot what level I reached. Finallly quit with ten lives left after. Realized my high score wouldn’t reflect my accomplishment.

You can cheat by not shooting the two bottom right red guys. Shoot all others. Then avoid them and wait till they quit firing. Takes about fifteen minutes. The rest of the game, they don’t shoot.

Not to mention barely getting away from dying by flying into the Stargate.

I've said this before. The one game that I think I still have PTSD from or anxiety or whatever is the one that had an alien ship surrounded by multiple concentric circles that were shields. They'd have these little asterisk things flying around trying to kill you and then you try to shoot your way through all the shields and nothing made me jump more than when I finally get a hole in the shields and the ship would fire at me &  blow me off the map.

I “worked” at an arcade in the eighties and I played them all.
Me and a couple co-workers played Missile Command and Asteroids (different days) for 24 straight hours for charity.
Soccer club next door (mob) sponsored both events.
When I said I “worked” there I turned dollars into tokens. I was paid in tokens and lunch. I was 14.
