If he does, I won't be bitter - it was time for Moore to move on.

cmh6476 1,018 Posted December 23, 2023 https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/39168451/chargers-cut-dt-sebastian-joseph-day-14-starts-2023 LOS ANGELES -- The Chargers waived defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph-Day on Friday, the team announced. The move comes as somewhat of a surprise as Joseph-Day was a team captain and had started all 14 games for the Chargers. He had signed a three-year, $24 million contract with the Chargers in the 2022 offseason as one of the many moves the team made to bolster its defense, adding Khalil Mack, J.C. Jackson, and Morgan Fox. One week after the Chargers fired coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco, the first major move by interim head coach Giff Smith and interim general manager JoJo Wooden was to cut Joseph-Day, who had been an integral player in Staley's defense. WhiteWonder 2,685 Posted March 15, 2024 Bears acquired WR Keenan Allen from the Chargers in exchange for a 2024 fourth-round pick. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the cap-strapped Chargers approached Allen about a pay cut from his scheduled $18.1 million salary, but that the veteran wideout understandably declined. It would seem Allen knew there would be a trade market for his services. He now departs the only franchise he’s ever known for a Bears organization that appears poised to select USC’s Caleb Williams at No. 1 overall. Chicago already has has a legit WR1 in D.J. Moore, but they want to avoid the mistakes of so many other rookie-starting teams and surround Williams with as many weapons as possible to gain early-career momentum. Going on 32 with a history of hamstring injuries, Allen is nevertheless as consistent as it gets in the middle of the field when he stays on the field, something he did in 2023 until the Bolts threw in the towel late. It’s devastating for Justin Herbert, but Allen should be able to maintain WR2 PPR relevance even with Moore in the fold. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports the Chargers released WR Mike Williams. The Chargers signed Williams to a three-year, $60 million contract after the 2021 season. He was coming off a career year with 76 grabs, 1,146 yards, and nine scores. He failed to top 900 yards in 13 games in 2022 and suffered a torn ACL in Week 3 last year, ending his season. Now, with the Chargers dangerously over the cap as the deadline to become compliant approaches, it was simply untenable to keep Williams on the books this year. The veteran receiver will have a market in a free agent class desperate for wide receiver talent, but his recovery from the knee injury will ultimately determine how much interest other teams have. Commanders agreed to terms with RB Austin Ekeler, formerly of the Chargers, on a two-year contract. The deal is worth “up to” $11.43 million and includes $4.82 million total in 2024. Another $1.5 million is possible incentives for 2024. It’s not the worst contract Ekeler could have signed, but it was probably one of his nightmare scenarios when he fought for a better deal last summer. We suppose 29-year-old Ekeler (in May) is an upgrade on Antonio Gibson in the Commanders’ pass-catching role, but it’s not a given at this stage of his career. He is reuniting with Commanders RBs coach Anthony Lynn, who oversaw some of Ekeler’s pass-happiest campaigns with the Bolts. Kliff Kingsbury, of course, is the actual offensive coordinator. The three-down Ekeler experiment should be over, once again rendering him a receptions-based PPR FLEX. Bears agreed to terms with TE Gerald Everett, formerly of the Chargers, on a two-year, $12 million contract. Everett spent two seasons with the Chargers, totaling 109 receptions for 966 yards and seven touchdowns. The seven-year vet averaged a career-low 8.1 YPR last season but was the second-most targeted player in a Chargers offense that lost Mike Williams early in the season and saw Austin Ekeler struggle for much of the year. Everett’s arrival could put a dent in Cole Kmet’s fantasy value, but we’d still expect Kmet, who is fresh off a 73-719-6 season, to see the majority of the Bears’ tight end targets.
