Every time some right-wing fruitcake commits an act of violence, the MAGAtards quickly pivot to the summer 2020 riots or Chicago gun violence, the latter a supposed examples of a blue city in which so much of the shootings involve blacks, which automatically get labeled liberal because of their race, even though most of these thugs have never voted and don't even know who is president.

The company closed stores - at least three of them in what appear to be poor areas of town - that have lost tens of millions of dollars over the past two decades.

The response to these closures notes that they will create a big gap in the provision of goods to these localities.....that these places desperately need these stores so that people can have access to basic necessities....

It sure paints a picture of a service that is badly needed.....that people nearby would likely patronize to a significant extent....

Why then....would they be losing so much money?

Crime is part of it. 

The other issue is the cost of gasoline and the distaste, that is growing, from many people who don't want to interact with the general public anymore. 

Walmart and Amazon online, plus all the remaining major retailers/grocers now having the means to ship and deliver, is helping to kill off standard brick and mortar big box stores. The cost structure is also different ( lease, utilities, insurance, payroll, liability, etc, etc) and less problematic for online/delivery. 

No matter the partisan viewpoint, the increasing death of "public spaces" is a problem. People are easy to control if you isolate them. 

Writing off the entire issue as some kind of partisan problem like you did is ignoring the larger picture.

Did you see the teens take over the streets of downtown Chicago?  Jumping on hoods of cars, smashing windshields on innocent people stuck in the traffic, breaking storefront windown and just plain wilding in the streets.  So sad to watch all the frightened people and tourists being harassed by al the black youths running wild.

Many needed a police escort just to get back to their hotels.    Think this is good for local business owners?
