No there would still be two problems: 

1. The guy is an illegal alien. The victims were illegal aliens as well from my understanding. Like you I don’t want illegal aliens in this country. I suspect that our solutions to this issue are diametrically opposed. But we agree the status quo is not working. 
 

2. As an illegal alien this murderer was somehow able to purchase a firearm. I strongly suspect, but do not know that this is due to a lack of strong gun restrictions in this country which we badly need.

I heard something that the US govt pays the people smuggling illegals for the last leg of their trip.  It was a comment by someone on a news show but I never heard more or researched it.  I figured why not?  We have screwed up everything else so it did not surprise me if it were true and I never looked into it any more to figure out what the person that said it meant.  I may have misunderstood their comment and have no idea if it is true or not.
