The Real timschochet 6,695 Posted September 6, 2023 So I’ve made no bones about the fact that, though I dislike Joe Biden, I think he’s done a pretty good job as President. And if he is on the ballot next year I will happily vote for him again, especially if the opponent is, as appears will be, Donald Trump. But… Unlike some here, I believe in polls. Polls don’t lie. And every poll I’ve been reading lately tell me the same damn things: 1. Biden’s ratings remain dismally low. We’ve been told that this will change when people see the results of the infrastructure bill or the Reduce Inflation Act. We’ve been told this will change when folks start to feel better about the economy. But guess what? It’s not happening. And there’s no reason to believe it will happen a year from now. Public attitudes about Joe Biden seem to be entrenched. 2. The public thinks he’s too old. Personally I don’t see anything wrong with Joe’s faculties, but the majority of Americans disagree. And this is not going to get any better. This issue is going to stick around all the way to the election. And there’s no good way to fight it. 3. It was announced today that Hunter is going to be indicted next month. I still don’t think Joe had anything to do with this but at best it’s an unnecessary distraction. At worst it could be real trouble. Like Hillary’s emails, it’s a headache that we (those who want to see Democrats do well) don’t need. The bottom line is this: Trump could win. He could actually win. Since I do not want to see Trump win, I reluctantly have reached the conclusion that Joe Biden should announce that he is not seeking re-election. Now. Before it’s too late. The Real timschochet 6,695 Posted September 6, 2023 As to who the candidate should be I’ve no idea at the moment. Anti-semite RFK Jr is a nonstarter. I like Kamala more than some, but she has even worse ratings than Biden. Gavin Newsom is slick and sleazy and unethical, sort of a California version of Bill Clinton, but he might make a good President. I’ve heard great things about Shapiro in Pennsylvania. I don't think it's working either. It's going to take a lot longer than a year to recover, IMO. I am really starting to take note of the things that have increased in price, just when my hubs and I go out to dinner, things like that. 2. He is too old. He fumbles words, has problems ambulating, gets confused, and occasionally gets rude with people. He's taken over 300 days of vacations. Constantly checks his watch, leaves events early. If his faculties are indeed good, then he's an incredible rude man that gives NO indication that he cares about what he's doing. He's been an elected official in some regard for what, 50 years? There's probably nothing else he CAN or knows how to do. 3. I think it's foolish to NOT think Joe had anything to do with Hunter. He absolutely used his position to get more money (10% for the big guy), and whatever other deals he struck. The whole family is a bunch of grifters; multiple businesses with money that's probably impossible to track, multiple email addresses, I mean...come on, man. All of it is shady as fock.

I don't like to say he is too old because it is ageist and lazy, but I can't think of a better adjective to encapsulate "he's showing severe mental degradation due to his age." Jill should pull him aside and say we did it Hon, let's retire after this term and enjoy the grandkids.

The Real timschochet 6,695 Posted September 6, 2023 Reminds me of Tommy Lasorda, the old Dodgers manager. I was a fan as a kid. But when his son died of AIDS he wouldn’t acknowledge it. Lasorda was embarrassed that his baseball buddies might find out. He told everyone it was cancer and then held a funeral. His son’s boyfriend of many years was not invited. Really awful. thegeneral 3,141 Posted September 7, 2023 Biden versus Trump is embarrassing. I was convinced Biden would step aside this summer and announce he would not seek re-election. Ego and the trappings of that job are hard to walk away from. I get that. Biden won the election he gets to do what he wants. I do think there is a chance Biden does step aside. But not really sure how that would work at this point in terms of how they figure out the nom.

Then when DeSantis turned out to be a total putz it was game over. The system isn’t weaponized against Trump, he’s a sloppy mess who breaks laws all over the place. If the Republicans in the Senate had half a sack they would have finished him off in January before Biden took the oath.
