Voltaire 5,277 Posted October 10, 2023 During the Gulf War, the first time I heard explosions nearby BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! I was scared to death and dove under a truck, which may not have been terribly smart as it had a fuel tank that could explode, but I didn't want any flying shrapnel either. I soon realized that nothing around me was exploding, nobody was shouting, the ground wasn't shaking. No, what I'd heard was us shooting at them for the first time. Fortunately, I never did find out what it was like to be on the receiving end of a missile, only the sending end. Those of us in maintenance were a mile or three behind the M1A2s and Bradleys on the front line. Nearby, making all that noise, was the field artillery. I have no opinion other than that. My understanding is Egypt held Gaza and picked a fight with Israel back in the 60s and lost. As part of that conflict Israel claimed Gaza. That's usually the way wars are settled. Two countries get in a fight and territory changes hands. But the concept of Palestine being it's own country for centuries appears false. It was conquered by the ottoman's who held it until world war I. Then various factions have been fighting over the area ever since. I'm sure it was conquered dozens of times before the Ottomans showed up.

naomi 356 Posted October 10, 2023 Not sure about this, but someone asserted that Egypt wanted to drive a population of Arabs out of Gaza and have Gaza. Egypt didn't want Gaza + the inhabitants. Supposedly nobody wanted to give refuge to those particular inhabitants back in the day.

kilroy69 1,233 Posted October 10, 2023 Israel should do a leaflet bombing campaign for a week straight. Open up a human rights corridor into egypt and tell everyone that leaves they have safe passage. If you stay you die. Then level all of the west bank. OK I’m going to re-enter this thread because it’s too important not to discuss. I’ll simply try to ignore the anti-Semites. To your point, Israel has just done the exact opposite. They have bombed the road to Egypt, blocking all exits for Palestinians.

seafoam1 2,875 Posted October 10, 2023 Go figure. Ilhan Omar condemns Israel’s military response to Hamas Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., attacked Israel's response to an unprecedented assault by Hamas in an extensive thread on social media Monday. Omar, a longtime critic of Israel and advocate for Palestinians, seemed to equate the Israeli victims killed by Hamas terrorists this weekend and Palestinians killed in the ongoing Israeli response. "Just as we honor the humanity of the hundreds of innocent Israeli civilians and 9 Americans who were killed this weekend, we must honor the humanity of the innocent Palestinian civilians who have been killed and whose lives are upended," she wrote. Omar went on to highlight the hardships of living in Gaza, accusing Israel of operating an "apartheid" state in an attempt to explain violence by Hamas. "Palestinian residents of the West Bank have scarcely better lives than Gazans — with the routine destruction of their ancestral homes, destruction of their crops, and violent attacks by Israeli settlers," Omar wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. Omar's office did not respond to questions from Fox News Digital asking her to elaborate on the thread. The congresswoman did not clarify how she believed Israel should have responded to Saturday's attack, which has since left at least 1,000 Israelis dead and 2,700 more wounded. The Minnesota Democrat's only suggestion for a "solution to this horror" was "a negotiated peace — with Israelis and Palestinians enjoying equal rights and security guarantees." https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ilhan-omar-condemns-israels-military-response-hamas-solution-negotiated-peace

KSB2424 3,148 Posted October 10, 2023 Even if Palestine has legit beef, and honestly they may as that land has changed hands many times over history. You lose all credibility and any support when you select a terrorist group like Hamas to lead. Even other Arab countries like Egypt don’t want Palestinians because they are nuts and a danger to society.
