frank 2,302 Posted December 21, 2023 I am not exaggerating when I say the Christmas when I got my 2600 was one of the best days of my life. You could give me a million dollars right now and I wouldn’t be that excited.

For some reason, circa 1986, I thought I would go against the grain and ask Santa for an Atari 7800 over a NES. Needless to say I chose wrong. The 7800 sucked obviously. I remember going to a kids house and playing SMB and Pro Wrestling. I was hooked. My parents made me use paper route money to buy a NES.

Reality 3,121 Posted December 21, 2023 Atari never really took at our house, NES was the spark that lit the gaming flame. I vaguely remember playing Pitfall, so, I'll go with that.
frank 2,302 Posted December 21, 2023 I would play anything back then, including E.T. and this:

TommyGavin 790 Posted December 21, 2023 I probably told this story before but TM mentioned Missile Command which I do not remember as an Atari game (asteroids either) but me and 2 buddies did a charity thing where at our local arcade we played Missile Command for over 24 straight hours and local businesses donated $$. Do not remember if it was based on hours or score but it was for a local kid with cancer.

I disagree with this. I have a couple of the Arcade 1up machines and enjoy playing the old games. It's the games that make it fun, not that they have 2023 graphics and sound. Strike 5,532 Posted December 21, 2023 To answer the OP, probably Asteroids cause I was good at it. Loved Defender too but it frustrated me cause I wasn't good at it lol.

Yeah...but with so many things....we remember them for how they made us feel "then" - but now, when we play them, I dunno....its usually not as good as we remember them. And Arcade 1up are better than Atari. Sort of like the movie "The God's Must Be Crazy". When I first watched it, I laughed. It was funny. It was "good". I bet now I couldn't get through 20 minutes. Speaking of Defender...part of the fun for me, was going up into the top edge of the screen and disappearing. It seems like it was an "easter egg" before it's time.
