Trump's NY Election Interference Trial - Trump is found guilty on all 34 counts

Recommended Posts

Trump really screwed this up. If he had hired jonmx as his defense attorney this case would have been thrown out weeks ago. What a dipshit!

Have you ever heard of a trial where the jury was not given a hard copy of the jury instructions????  This judge is so bizzare.  It is as if the judge wants to control how the jury hears the instructions and to be able to spin it.

I have never heard of that before. It is a little strange. I’m guessing it’s a New York thing but really don’t know :dunno:

Yes, in all criminal trials in New York, from my understanding, because the jury instructions are not considered "evidence" in that jurisdiction.

No, not just when pressured. Snopes has never claimed that their fact checking is infallible. When they have made an error and it is pointed out to them, they always make a correction.

Snopes lies with its conclusions often.  We just discussed a case yesterday:

Quote
Claim:
The judge in former U.S. President Donald Trump's hush-money trial told jurors they didn't have to unanimously agree on which crime Trump committed for his conviction so long as they agreed that some crime occurred.
Context

The jury must unanimously agree on Trump's guilt of falsifying business records in the first degree (he faces 34 counts of this crime). A first-degree charge of falsification of business records requires a "predicate crime" for which the falsification was plausibly intended to cover up. The jury does not need to agree on the predicate crime for a conviction.

False?  That's partially true, not false.

This was discussed at length yesterday in this thread so I don't really want to rehash it, but no, it is true that they "didn't have to unanimously agree on which (predicate) crime Trump committed."

The more times you repeat it, the stupider it sounds.   Snopes is being their usual self pushing a very radical leftist spin which is extremely misleading if not an outright lie.

Katie Phang explains the elements of the felony crimes that Trump is facing.

What is the alleged crime?

@KatiePhang joins @jdbalart at the Big Board to break down the jury in former President Trump's hush money trial and what Trump is being charged with.

Jon Mx can be trusted here to post the exact opposite of the truth and what is likely to happen. When Jon says there is no case here that’s how I know Trump is guilty. When Jon asserts that any conviction will be thrown out on appeal, that’s how I know it won’t happen. When Jon attacks the judge as incompetent and corrupt, that’s when I’m confident that Merchan is really good. And so on

That was not even remotely close to what he was saying.

I for one am glad that noted scholar / Trump’s #1 ankle-grabbing assboy @jonmx is here to help us unpack these thorny legal issues.

Yes, it is. He says:

"The outside world is watching and the outside world is just not going to bring their business to New York. And that is going to cost the city trillions and the state trillions and trillions of dollars"

The only way jonmx and emperor should be used together is in an analogy regarding Jon's gullibility and wardrobe choices.

Jon is ruthless enough to be an emperor, but nowhere close to smart enough. He's just a simple wannabe terrorist for now, hoping against hope that he has a chance to murder or grievously harm a lib someday. If Trump loses, we'll need to either have a wellness check done on him (if anyone cares enough about his well-being to even go to that much effort) or call the FBI to report an imminent threat. I'm thinking the latter.

It has been a long, long time since law school for me.  When I was there we learned, mostly tangentially, that two states were what was referred to as Field Code states, that is their intrinsic law was not based entirely upon english common law as is the case in most stes, but they had elements of french and even dutch law primarily procedurally.  The First, Louisianna was strongly influenced by french prodcedure and the seond New York by french and dutch.  Some of the procedures we are seeing here are, I presume, a result of that, but being admitterd in neither of those jurisdictions and the passage of time since my education I really cannot say. (Admitted in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico and to the Federal Bar and provisionally admitted, pro hac vice to Virgina and Florida, now retired and I have relinquished my license so as to not have to keep up with CLE's.)

I've said it many times, the left and right are not all that different.  They both have crazies and complain about each other as if they do no wrong.

From @LauraAJarrett:

As Trump passes the time in his courthouse holding room waiting on the jury to finish its deliberations, NBC News has learned he has managed to get a TV put in the room today (he didn't have one yesterday). When asked what channel the TV is turned to, the source demurred.

Lowest common denominator.  Pretty much by definition anyone who is out there needs to go find a job.  I doubt there's too many independently wealthy folks spending their Thursday afternoon out there.

I fear hysterics from each side of the spectrum may behave very badly and potentially even violently upon a verdict.  Folks seem very worked up and very much tribally aligned.  I would just stay far away from the courthouse if I lived in New York.
