Sean Mooney 2,061 Posted November 4, 2024 17 minutes ago, Gladiators said: We all know the answer to this. At this point- neither. I'm far more concerned with the Senate races and some of the local things. Back in June I was going to rather unenthusiasticallyĀ vote for Biden. Then he had his debate performance and it became abundantly clear he wasn't of sound mind. So I was leaning to Trump at that point. Kamala came in and I think she has run a bad campaign and I don't like that she has not outlined her own policies. But the past month or so has been a reminder of the idiocy that is a Trump presidency. So if I were voting right now- I'd probably leave the top of the ticket blank. By tomorrow I may be back to unenthusiastically voting for the Democrat candidate. I want both parties to provide a normal candidate so we have a legitimate choice in 2028 Sorry that a thoughtful post providing numbers of mail in ballots was too much for your buddy on here to read. jerryskids 7,198 Posted November 4, 2024 1 hour ago, IGotWorms said: Harris is not at all extreme this go around. She was a little too extreme in 2020 though Ā 1 hour ago, The Real timschochet said: This will definitely happen with Harris. I would argue that sheās a centrist anyhow but even if I am wrong about that the Senate is likely to be Republican- and even in the very unlikely event Democrats hang on to the Senate their hold there will be extremely tenuous. Add to that a conservative Supreme Court and I donāt think anyone has to worry about radical changes under Harris.Ā Ā Trump is extreme but not an extreme rightist, more an extreme nativist/populist. He will sewĀ chaos if elected. Most of those who are voting for him are counting on him to āfixā the economy and immigration; he will definitely try some radical moves which will create all kinds of anxiety but no solutions/ I think there will be a lot of buyers remorse.Ā Interestingly, Axios says that Kamala is a vacuous hole where policies go to die.Ā She has espoused a bunch of far left progressive proposals in the past, but when asked now, she says "no comment."Ā So this belief that she will govern from the center is wishful thinking with no basis in her beliefs at any point in her life. Quote One thing is clear aboutĀ Vice President Harris' intent to stick to her old liberal views or govern with new centrist thinking: She doesn't want voters to know. Why it matters:Ā Harris is the "no comment" candidate ā purposely and strategically. She has calculated that it's safer to be vague on policy matters than lampooned as a flip-flopper or left-winger. Zoom in:Ā Harris and her staff have refused to detail her position on more than a dozen of her previous stances the past three months in response to questions by Axios. The response to those inquiries: No comment. This makes her actual governing plans a mystery even to many Democrats ā given her past liberal record and current promise to govern from the middle.Ā If she wins,Ā this will be seen as shrewd, thread-the-needle politics. But if she loses, she and her team will be blamed for leaving voters foggy about her true views and self. And President Biden will be blamed for backing a candidate with such a liberal track record. Driving the news:Ā Since Harris became the Democratic nominee this summer, Harris' team has declined to say whether she still supports: Executive actions toĀ unilaterally give a path toĀ citizenship to 2 million "Dreamers" ā undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children. Ending theĀ death penalty on the federal level. Harris has opposed capital punishment since 2003. AĀ mandate for automakersĀ to only build electric or hydrogen vehicles by 2035. Executive actions toĀ protect more than 6 million undocumented immigrantsĀ from deportation by expanding "deferred action" guidelines. Decriminalizing prostitutionĀ ("We can't criminalize consensual behavior as long as no one is being harmed," Harris said in 2019). ClosingĀ private, for-profit prisons, which she called "morally wrong." Getting rid of the Senate filibusterĀ in order to pass multitrillion-dollar Green New Deal legislation. Harris' campaignĀ declined to comment to CNNĀ about several positions she took in 2019, including: Federal prisoners and detained immigrants obtaining taxpayer-funded gender transition surgeries. An open-ended pledge to "end" immigration detention. For this story, Axios askedĀ Harris' campaign whether she still supports these other past positions of hers, and the campaign declined to comment: ProvideĀ reparations to Black AmericansĀ because of slavery. Support for "sanctuary cities"Ā that provide safety and refuge for undocumented immigrants. RestoreĀ voting rights forĀ all former prisoners. Renegotiate international refugee rules to provide protections for people displaced by climate change andĀ welcome them to the U.S. Install aĀ climate envoyĀ in every major embassy around the world. IssueĀ national protections for 30%Ā of the land and sea areas in the U.S.Ā by 2030, which would limit drilling. Reality check:Ā Despite the dodges, Harris has stated some of her policy priorities ā namely to boost security on the Southwest border, put more limitations on asylum, and bring down the costs of food and housing. She also hasĀ made clearĀ that she no longer supports some of her past progressive positions like banning fracking, passing Medicare for All, implementing mandatory gun buybacks, decriminalizing illegal border crossings, or phasing out plastic straws. Ā Harris has argued her positions shifted as a result of her time as vice president, but that her "values have not changed." It's also normalĀ for a presidential candidate to run to the left or right during a primary race, then try to moderate during the general election campaign. (Harris briefly ran for president in the Democratic primary in 2019.) Harris also is dealing with the unprecedented sprint of becoming the nominee three months before Election Day, and had little time to put together her policy agenda. She has indicated she plans toĀ replaceĀ much of Biden's senior team with her own team if she's elected, which suggests policy changes. Between the lines:Ā Harris' limited public policy agenda has lots of overlap with Biden proposals that didn't make their way through Congress. Current and former Biden aides have noted that Harris' plan to expand the housing supply by millions of units is similar to Biden's housing plan in the original Build Back Better bills. Ultimately, much of the housing plans were cut out of the bill as Democrats tried to get it past Senate moderates, especially Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.). Harris also has zeroed inĀ on addressing the high costs for people in the "sandwich generation" ā those with obligations to children and aging parents. In May, Biden's White House started a similar "sandwich generation" push as he was running for re-election. Donald Trump's campaignĀ has tried to tie Harris to the unpopular president. Multiple Trump adsĀ feature HarrisĀ being asked whether she'd do anything differently from Biden, and responding that there's "not a thing that comes to mind." https://www.axios.com/2024/11/03/kamala-harris-no-comment-strategy?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email

Sean Mooney 2,061 Posted November 4, 2024 from Philly courtroom ā Musk lawyer says his $1m giveaway is NOT a lottery. "There is no prize to be won" and winners "are not chosen at random," Musk lawyer Chris Gober said. Instead, the $1m is a salary they "earn" to be a spokesperson for Musk's pro-Trump super PAC. Winners are picked based on their "suitability to serve" and their personal story, Gober said. In response, Philly DA team called this a "complete admission of liability" that Musk is running an illegal lottery under PA law. Remember: When Musk announced the giveaway.... in PA nonetheless.... he said, "we are going to be awarding $1 million randomly." DA showed this in court to the judge. Gober argued there's a difference between "randomly" and "by chance," which is why he argued that this isn't an illegal lottery under PA gaming laws.
