Most Nostalgic Bar You Ever Had A Drink In

Recommended Posts

Lafittes Black-Smith Shop. It’s been here since 1722. Pretty amazing when you realize it’s over three hundred years old.

Probably the Salty Dawg in Homer, AK. Just a great old fashioned AK dive bar out on the spit.

Been to a few in NYC as well that were pretty cool. Some of them were kinda touristy whereas others had great authentic vibes.  Can’t remember which was which though. Been to others in DC and Boston but didn’t like those as much because, ladder climbers and Massholes

Union Bay Oyster House in Boston.

Hmm, I wonder if I've been there.  I was in Cambridge 4 years for college, and mostly went to fraternity parties because I was poor, but I occasionally went to some Faneuil Hall bars when I went to the Bahston Gahden for events.

Beer hall in Salzburg. Grab a mug when you walk in rinse it out and hand it to this dude who probably pours 1000 gallons a day 😂

Delicious

One of my favorites!

edit: also enjoy the one in Munich (not related).

Hard to beat either of these settings. Just remember the beer at this spot being so good.

Toronado not too bad either!

I was there in 2018 for work. I don’t remember anything about the food but the atmosphere was great.

Punch Bowl at Bandon Dunes

The beer was some seasonal IPA served from an Airstream. But the setting after just finishing Bandon Trails about an hour or two before twilight was about as perfect as life can be as far as I’m concerned.

This spot is a huge putting green with a bunch of holes put in to make a “course”.

There was a huge group of older dudes all getting hammered playing. They were acting as you’d expect having a great time.

At one point a piece of paper blew over towards us that I went to pick, it was a 10,000 dollar wrapper. Noticed one of the dudes had a Crown Royal bag that I deduced had at least 10k.

My group was betting one dollar a hole 😂

This place may be where Bob Ryan, famous NBA sports journalist, almost started a fight with me after a Celtics game, because I told him that if Larry Bird were black, he'd be just another very good player.  This was the late 80s.  We were both drunk.  Good times.

That place is great!  My next door neighbor has a second house in Bandon Dunes (literally, one of I think 30-ish houses on the Bandon Dunes property, 5 minute drive from the clubhouse).  I went up in June 2023 with him, we played Sheep Ranch, the short/free par 3 course, and hit a bunch of balls at the awesome range.

And we played the Punch Bowl.  There is a little cabana bar at the "course," is that what you are referring to?  Or the restaurant above it?  Anyway, I beat him and won his red Bandon Dunes ball cap.

Not sure I'd call that a nostalgic bar, but that putting green/course is phenomenal.

Yeah that little Airstream trailer that they were serving out of. When I was there the server was running drinks out to people. I imagine she does pretty well on tips.

I was thinking of places where I had a drink that was served to me that was memorable and this one (along with the Salzburg place) came to mind.

I distinctly remember standing in the middle of that place, air temp was perfect, had just walked 18, and was thinking I want to live here…like right where I was standing 😂

Very nice having a buddy with a place there. I’d make sure he’s on your Xmas card list maybe send a fruit basket. One of the those experiences that lived up to the hype which is rare. Everything about that place was top notch.

'Skids is Dennis Rodman? 🤣  The Worm took crap from more than Bob Ryan for voicing the exact same sentiment.

I had a beer at the Middleton Tavern in Annapolis, MD which opened in 1750, it was very cool.

My favorite is the Old Ebbitt Grill in Washington DC founded in 1856. They still have the open flame gas lights instead of elecrtic light bulbs. President Grant used to drink there. Pleanty of congressmen hang.

I have also drank at the Swallows Bar in San Juan Capistrano, CA. It has been in lots of movies.
