I haven’t done that this year, though I have before. I informed the family from Afghanistan we have helped that if they lose any benefits my wife and I will help them more than we already do. However as Newsom plans to protect California SNAP recipients that hopefully won’t be necessary.

It allows me to use endless platitudes that mean nothing yet point toward some utopia that isn't possible. Saying that the government is responsible for everyone being fed makes me look like I'm a good person, which matters way more than actually being a good person.

It's also giving me a chance to openly push for 75% tax rate. I am fine with paying it so long as everyone else pays it. Because if it was just me giving away 75% of my check that wouldn't be fair, and fairness matters almost as much as pretending to be a good person.

It won't directly impact me but the smaller grocery store nearby that has actual butchers employed and has great meat selections for decent prices will be impacted and will most likely have to raise prices on things.

In fact, much like every other government shutdown, this one hasn't affected me at all. I think our taxes should be prorated for every day these morons go without working and they should all forfeit their pay.

Only a monster would want to prevent starving people from eating. Especially when there’s a surplus of crops and livestock. That was the original intent of the program. What it has become is a scam and a crutch for 90% of participants that could do more on their own to help themselves. It’s abused and should be audited and then gutted.
