not messing with you, just curious. I have a follow up question for the affirmatives.

I don't think its possible for any of us to have had it, seems like something that has been diagnosed more in the past 20 years

those of us over 40 that had it were just called what the F is wrong with you kid, and smacked by our fathers

This affliction didn't exist when I was a kid.

What did exist were brainiacs, good students, average students, retards and spazz's.

No, that usually just meant you had sh1tty parents

We have neighbors with 3 small boys. They do not set limits with them. About a year ago the oldest was diagnosed. They felt off the hook. "It's not our fault, he has this condition."

Reality is that the kids do not listen because there are no consequences.

Bingo

There's a new family in town. Their kids have only ever been to Montessori school. The mom is as obnoxious as they come.

The youngest (6) announces at the elementary school tour that he won't go to any school where he's confined to a desk.

The oldest daughter is hyper. Touches everything and everyone constantly. She's pushy, obnoxious, loud and generally mooselike in every way.

The mom said she has some sorta hyper disorder with a big fancy name. Went on to tell us about how it's not well understood because it's such a new diagnosis.

Yeah ok.

Your kids are hellions because you allow them to be.

Yeah. There are plenty of kids with real attention/hyperacivty problems, but more parents need to step up and guide their children.

My stepfather, stepbrother, and his son do. It's plain as day. They will zone in and out mid sentence sometimes.

My mom took me to the shrink to be "tested" when I was a senior in high school. Basically because I was failing everything I didn't need to graduate, as I already had an acceptance to college.

Guy said I had a raging case of "don't give a sh!t disorder."

I have some students that are poster children for ADD. nothing is done. Then I have others that are just lazy focks, and their parents got a diagnosis as an excuse.

I'd feel bad for criticizing the diagnosis, but I'm sure something else has distracted you by now ;)

It's a made up diagnosis to get people hooked on drugs.

Same. I was a pretty wild kid..Hard to hold my attention for a long time. Didn't really struggle in school academically, but had issues sometimes acting out.

Never took a drug for it. Ever...to this day I tell my wife I wonder how different I would be if I had been diagnosed ritalin or some other drug therapy. I kind of like me so I'm glad that never happened

Put an atheist in church and he will develop ADHD. No one has ADHD when they are actually doing something that interests them.

Pretty sure the spazz's got the label...

My son is ADHD (weeven wemt they tests at Vanderbilt with a psychological profile before we agreed to try medication for him). I see similar things to my childhood and complaints my mother had . Always tapping my feet and hands...couldn't sit still...hardto pay attention. Some of it is just being a kid but it goes beyond that.

It was affecting him at school as early as 1st grade. He is in a low dose medication and it's a big difference in school. He doesn't take it except for school days and some weekend days when he hassoccer or basketball games (his request that he needs it sometimes those days)

Incorrect.

My son does well in school now and was never a kid that hated it.

He loves playing soccer and basketball and has requested his medication some game days because he knows it will help him stay focused.

Hmm.

My regular porn routine is to search certain categories, then watch a few seconds of many clips until I find that perfect scene to blow my load to.

Maybe I should be chasing my Viagra pills with Adderall.

So...

For those of you who were diagnosed with or without the hyperactivity, or believed you had it and were not diagnosed- have you had bipolar or manic symptoms?

I haven't no. I do recall it helping me calm down and focus better in middle school.

very similar symptoms, but there are age restrictions with diagnosing mood disorders. we saw add/adhd morph into mood disorders later.
